    Community Answer
It depends. Many mites/chiggers are now resistant to permethrin (thanks to overuse in modern agriculture). Cedarwood oil works, as it does for other insects/spiders/bugs. A good vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter and steam mop does a the job. Put 2 teaspoons of Bicarb in the filter (dries mites out) and throw out the filter after every use.

  • Question
Do high or low temperatures kill chiggers?
    Community Answer
Yes. Hot temperatures kill chiggers, so ironing or washing clothes in hot water (above 60 degrees Celcius) can kill them. Their eggs can live a long time, so ironing, steam cleaning, hot water, or UV light lamps to disinfect are the way to go.
