I typed a couple of underscores and then pressed enter and it won't go away. How do I get rid of them?
    Community Answer
First, select part of your text which contains "Border Lines," then go to the "Home" tab and select the "Paragraph" ribbon, click on "Borders" command and finally choose "No Border."
  • Question
How do I identify an unwanted line on a page?
    Community Answer
Press the backspace key. It is the one with an arrow going left on most keyboards. You can tell which way left is by making your hands into letters - the L is the left hand.

If you hit Enter after a string of underlines, hyphens or dashes and an unwanted solid line appears which is not made of editable characters, you can immediately hit Ctrl+Z via the keyboard or its equivalent back-arrow icon to Undo Word’s conversion of it, leaving it in the dashed form you created. If you later want to remove such a line, after it’s too late to use the above Undo, just put the cursor in the paragraph above the line and press ctrl Q. This always works for me in Word 7. If after that a line remains, try selecting it and hitting delete. If that fails, select the underlined section, go to Borders in the Home menu and select no borders.
