The melon will still grow to the same size as normal, so the mold you put it in has to be the same volume as a normal mature melon. You can experiment with different shapes that are about the same volume.

  • Question
    Can watermelon be grown vertically?
    Community Answer
Yes, but you need to have a strong trellis to support the vines, and you'll have to tie up the fruits as they get bigger. Put them in used pantyhose or other material that can stretch and anchor them securely to the trellis.
  • Question
How can I grow these on my balcony?
    Community Answer
Most melon vines can sprawl 10-20 feet. However, there are "bush" varieties that only grow a few feet long while still producing full-size fruit, and they would probably work on a balcony.
  • Question
How we know whether watermelon is ripen or not?
    Community Answer
The melon should be a bright green with dark green stripes. I trick I use to see if melons are ripe is to knock on the melons like a door. The louder the sound it makes, the riper it is. Note that you have to knock with the same force using this technique.
  • Question
Could I grow square lemons using the same type of packaging?
    Community Answer
Yes, but you have to get a box that is a slightly smaller size than the mature lemon, and it needs to be light so that it won’t fall off the tree.
  • Question

Basically, like almost any plant, pests and weather are inevitable rivals. Finding molding materials for the fruit is not that hard.
