Being alone can be difficult but it can also be a really healing time. Finding something that you enjoy doing and that brings you happiness can make a world of difference between a lonely night at home or a relaxing time rejuvenating your inner self. Make sure to do diverse activities. Isolation, loneliness, anxiety and depression all go hand-in-hand. It’s important to disrupt the cycle of negativity when thinking about being alone in order to appreciate the time you have to regroup. Make it a choice to be alone, something to look forward to. Create a list of the things that you enjoy doing and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. Incorporate the things that make you feel good (rated an 8-10 on your scale) into your alone time.
  • Question
What if something happens, and you don't have any numbers to call.
    Community Answer
If it's an emergency, dial 911. Someone will help you with your problem. However, only call if it's a true emergency, such as you are in danger (from another person) or you cut yourself and you can't stop bleeding. Otherwise, try to find a number online or in the phone book where you could reach your parents. Where did your parents say they were going? If it's a store or restaurant, you can call the store and have them page your parents. If it's their workplace, try to find a number for where they work and ask for them if someone else picks up.
  • Question
What if someone tries to come into your house?
    Isabella Foreman

  • Question
What if I'm only home alone for 30 minutes?
    Community Answer
Just watch some TV or read. You don't have to do everything. Remember, these are just some ideas, not requirements.
  • Question
What if I have my period for the first time and I don't own any toilet paper and there are no pads laying around and I'm home alone? I don't know what to do.
    Community Answer
Find anything you can that that absorbs blood (like an old washcloth) and put that in your underwear, then call someone who can come and help you (by bringing toilet paper, pads, etc.).
  • Question
I'm pretty lazy and I'm not into girly stuff. What can I do?
    Community Answer
You can try watching your favorite shows, play video games, draw, read, or invite a friend over if you can. If you're allowed to leave the house you can go for a walk or bike ride too.
  • Question
What if the other person gets hurt, or we both do?
    Community Answer
If they are bad injuries (uncontrollable bleeding, someone is unconscious, etc.), call 911. If you are both okay to continue without immediate help (for example you tripped and got bruised but you're definitely both okay), find a way to call your parents or another relative/adult and explain the situation.
  • Question
What do I do if I'm a kid and my friend is over at my house?
    Community Answer
Find things you are both into. Play a video or board game together, listen to music, read comics, watch a movie or TV show, or check out funny YouTube videos.
  • Question
What if I get my period for the first time and no one's home?
    Community Answer
Look to see if there are any pads lying around or in a bathroom. If there aren't, you can make a homemade pad with toilet paper until someone gets home and can take you to the store.

    Community Answer
If you break something, clean up the pieces carefully and tell your parents what happened when they get home. If you hurt your cat (and you believe he's seriously injured), call or text a parent and tell them, because they may need to come home and take the cat to the vet. Be careful when you're dancing!

  • Question
How do I deal with my crush asking to come to my house as a teenager when I'm alone?
    Community Answer
If you want your crush to come over, make sure you ask your parents before having him over. You can watch movies, play board games, cook/bake or do anything else fun! Make sure it’s allowed to have your crush over though. If you don’t want him/her to come over, politely tell them that he/she cannot come over. If you need an excuse, say your parents are super strict and they said no.
  • Question
How can I have fun while home alone as an 11 year old girl? I don't have a phone and on my school computer a lot of websites are blocked.
    Brielle Downey
    Community Answer
You can try making jewelry, trying a new hobby, watching TV, and if you have siblings who are staying home alone too, play some games with them that don't require screentime. If YouTube isn't blocked on your computer, log in with your favorite YouTubers. Plus, you can type a story on Google Docs, if you use Chrome or Microsoft Word if you use a PC with your school account in it.
  • Question
I’m not into girly stuff, I don’t like to read, don’t have anything to bake, can’t watch TV, and don’t have anything to draw or listen to. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Eat food that doesn't require cooking, such as crackers or ice cream. Play a musical instrument, dance, or sing to music. If you can, you can call your friends and hang out at your house. You can also play on a mobile device. Try something new, instead of the same old thing.
