I dislike the fringes hitting me in the face, so I went for a smoother top edge. I turned the blanket inside out prior to sewing for a nice clean hem. Next, I just sewed a 1 inch hem up to 5 inches on each side to keep the room for the fringes on each side of the blanket. The 5 inches is obtained from a 5-inch square I cut out at each corner.
