QuestionHow do you tell if you hit a home run?Community AnswerJust because you hit the ball high, doesn't mean it was a home run. If the ball goes over the fence, that is an automatic home run. Also, if you hit one far but it doesn't go over the fence, it could still be a home run - but you would have to run very fast, and the fielders would try to get you out.

QuestionWhat do I do if I catch the ball outfield?Community AnswerIt depends on a lot of things. First, if there already two outs and the ball comes all the way to you in the air and you catch it, that's the third out of the inning, and you can just run the ball back to the pitching mound on your way to the dugout. Second, if you catch a fly ball with less than two outs and there are one or more runners on base, throw the ball to the infielder closest to you, or if a runner is trying to advance to another base after you've caught the ball, throw it to the base the runner is heading for. (Your teammates should yell instructions to you.) Third, if the ball hits the ground before you catch it, throw the ball to second base. There are other possible scenarios. Ask your coach for more details.
-
QuestionHow do I know when to stop at a base?DonaganTop AnswererYour coaches or teammates should help you by yelling instructions to you about when to stop running. Otherwise, watch the ball if you can, and see where it is, and whether an opponent is trying to throw you out or preparing to tag you. In other words, stop at any base if you think you cannot advance safely to the next base without being tagged.

QuestionHow do I throw an underhanded pitch?DonaganTop AnswererThese instructions are for right-handers. (Left-handers should use the opposite hand and leg.) Begin with the ball in your right hand in front of you. Swing the ball back behind you and then forward in an underhand arc, stepping forward from the pitching rubber with your left leg. Let go of the ball as your right hand comes up to around waist level, keeping your left leg planted firmly on the ground. Experiment with your release point: a lower release point yields a lower, flatter pitch. A higher release point yields a higher pitch in a rainbow-like arc.
