Is it true that an RC73 remote is an IR remote only and cannot be programed for RF?

The RC73 is an RF remote for the DirecTV Genie receiver. The TV and other devices are controlled by it with IR. IR does both, but for different devices.

I programmed the remote to control my audio receiver, but it only controls the volume. How do I also program the remote to power it on and off?

According to DirecTV Customer Support, the Genie remote (RC73) cannot turn audio devices on and off. Only the volume can be controlled. (I can't speak to the capabilities of other DirecTV remotes.)

Check to see if the receiver is on and then no results change your input settings. Hold the input button and will bring up your TV's input list. Go through each input (tv, hdmi 1, hdmi2, etc).

How do I turn off "record" on my DirecTV Genie remote?

If you press the record button twice, it will record the whole series; if you press it a third time, it will pop up with "Continue Recording", "Change Recording Options", "Cancel This Episode" and "Cancel Entire Series". You will want to click the latter. It will ask, "Do you want to keep the partial recording?" You can either keep or delete the series that has thus far been saved.
