Step 1. "For an iPhone, no matter what kind, you swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen." An arrow will appear, then repeat step 1 to open up a GUI. Click a circle that has a lock with an arrow that's going clock-wise. If the lock is unlocked, then an app that you're running is preventing your screen from turning.

How do I rotate the screen on my iPhone 6s?

First, check to make sure you have the lock mode toggled off. Put your finger near the bottom of the screen and slide up; a panel will pop up, and at the top of it, you can see 5 different options with 5 different symbols. The lock symbol is the one that you need to look at. If it's red, it means the lock mode is toggled on. If it's gray, it means it's off. To switch between on/off simply tap the lock icon. Once this is gray, then just slide down to get rid of the panel, and you should be able to rotate your phone for the screen direction to change.
