    Expert Answer
Follow the old adage, it applies to wines: "What grows together goes together." When serving your wine, find out what part of the world it is from and look into what local foods, like meats, cheeses, or fruits, are commonly eaten there and use those as pairings.

  • Question
After I pour people wine, why do they shake their wine glass?

They're swirling the wine around in their glasses to help release the wine's natural aromas. Swirling the wine aerates it, which makes the aromas easier to detect.
  • Question
How many wines do you need to have on a wine list for a table of four?
    Community Answer
Try to have at least 2 options for each kind of wine. Offer two light-bodied white and red wines, and two full-bodied white and red wines. Include both dry and sweet wines so your guests have options. You may also want to include a dessert wine on the list.
  • Question
Do I pour wine for the host first, or the guests?
    Community Answer
You first offer the host a taste by pouring a small amount in their glass. Wait for them to say that the wine is okay (what they ordered, tastes fine, etc.). Then pour the wine for the guests and the host last.
