All recording studios have different prices. The best thing I can say is you get what you pay for. You want to get somebody that knows what you're playing. Typically, on the cheap side, it's $40 an hour. Some places go up to $100 to $200 an hour. It all depends on how many songs you want, how many instruments you want on the track, and how much you're going to pay for mixing and mastering and all that also. About $4,000 - $5,000 for a whole album is a general ballpark for a good studio.

Experiment around to figure out what works best for you. Some song writers start with the lyrics and build a melody around them, while others come up with a melody first and then come up with lyrics that seem to fit. You might start by improvising some riffs on a keyboard or guitar, or write down some ideas in a notebook and see if anything catches your interest.

  • Question
Why is it so easy to make a poem, but so hard to make a song?
    Community Answer
Writing poems is very much easier because it could be quite random. Songs require a lot of feeling, whether upsetting or uplifting. If you keep practicing on creating poems with strong feelings, songs will become easier. Lyrics are not always poems. They follow a beat; that could be a reason why it's harder.
  • Question
I want to produce music, but I don't want to show my face (like Marshmello or Sia). I'm afraid someone will take credit for it or call me a liar if I say it's me. Thoughts?
    Community Answer
Copyright your work under your name or a pseudonym you choose for the public. No one can legally copy your work if you have the copyright label.
  • Question
Why do I have to wait for inspiration?
    Community Answer
You don't. You can just sing random words while doing chores or reading, they can be about anything your chores, a pet, homework, or how your hair is really tangled today. If you wait for inspiration you won't end up with anything.
  • Question
Is GarageBand a good tool to use for beginners?
    Community Answer
Yes, GarageBand is simple to use and is free. You can find videos on how to use it on YouTube. Soundtrap.com is also very good for beginners.
  • Question
What do you think is easier: Remaking a song (remixes), or making your own song completely?
    Community Answer
If you can add some rhythm changes and a new beat to an old song to make it sound fun, you can remix. You will need explicit permission from the record label to use their work though. If you can make words sound good with a tune and have an idea about scale, composing lyrics, etc., then you can write a new song.
  • Question
What if I cannot find the beat for the background of my music?
    Community Answer
Listen to some of the classic songs and to some of your favorites for a few days, maybe at nights, when you are feeling calmer. Let it sink in for a week or so. Then, take a pen and a paper to write the music down. Or, put on your mobile phone's voice recorder and see if you record something that you like.
  • Question
I have a melody and I recorded the tune on my phone. And I decided to start working on something... but I don't really know how?
    Community Answer
You need to know about copyright laws. Start off by recording something small or basic on your phone and upload it on YouTube. Mention that these are your original compositions. If you get some views and subscribers, you can search online for some websites that publicize fresh work from beginners. You might want to make sure your name appears with your work. A good talent cannot be unseen for long. Some of your work might go unnoticed but if you keep working hard, it will be noticed in time.
  • Question
Does song have to come from inside of you?
    Community Answer
Everything comes from inside of you. You songs, thoughts, desires etc. If you feel blank, you can take inspiration from other people's work. Nothing is really original, everything is inspired.
