  • Question
How do I avoid using my phone? I always start thinking about games.
    Community Answer
First of all, when you go to study, make sure you put your phone on silent or switch it off and hide it somewhere where you cannot see it. You could even give it to a parent, sibling, roommate, etc. and ask them to return it until you're finished studying. If all else fails, delete the games.
  • Question
I have tons of homework to answer, and I have a lot of tests to study for. How do I manage my time between homework and studying for exams?
    Luna Xenia
    Community Answer
Do all of the homework due very soon first. Then, study a little bit for each exam. After that, work on homework that is not due soon but will take a long time to complete. After working on that for a bit, go back to studying.

Decide what your priorities are: Doing well in school (and gathering all the rewards that come with that), or being temporary friends with people who apparently don't care about their own futures.
  • Question
How do I study subjects that I don't like?
    Community Answer
Study those subjects first. Always start with your hardest work and do the easy work last, since you'll often be running out of brain power by the time you get to the end of your studies. Try giving yourself a reward for completing your work in the subject you don't like, perhaps a snack, a 15 minute break, etc. Remember that even though you don't like, it's probably important for you to learn it.
  • Question
Is it okay if I study for ten hours every day?
    Community Answer
I'm not sure how it would be possible for you to go to class, sleep, and do everything else you need to do if you are studying for 70 hours a week. 2-3 hours a day seems like a much more reasonable amount of time to study per day.
  • Question
How can I study subjects that I have a difficult time learning?
    Community Answer
Ask somebody to help you! Teachers are great for explaining things you're confused about, and they can even give you advice on how to do better on homework and tests. You could also try forming a study group with some classmates who know and understand the material well.

  • Question
What do I do if I ask questions in class and my teacher ignores me?
    Community Answer
Talk to them before or after class. Approach them respectfully and ask if you can have a moment of their time. Let them know that you feel like your questions are being ignored in class. It may be that the teacher has a policy where all questions must come at the end of class, or something like that, so hopefully he/she will explain this to you. You can always jot down your questions during class and then ask them all at the end, or even bring them to the teacher after class for further explanation.
  • Question
What do I do if I study hard but only get average grades?
    Community Answer
You might not be studying the right way. Take notes while you're studying and then go back over your notes. Some people find that rewriting their notes helps them memorize information. Other people like to use flash cards. See what works for you. You can also ask your teachers or school counselor for study tips. And if there are parts of the material you don't understand, ask for help!

  • Question
How can I make the teachers be my friends?
    Community Answer
There is a boundary that teachers must uphold in order to preserve a respectful classroom environment and the ethics of unbiased grading, as well as avoiding accusations of inappropriate student-teacher behavior. Teachers may be friendly toward you, but they are prohibited from maintaining anything but a professional teacher-student relationship with students. That said, you can generally make your teachers view you favorable by being attentive and participatory in class, bringing positive energy to the classroom, doing well on tests and handing in your homework on time. After you've graduated, you're free to pursue friendships with any of your former teachers that you'd like.
