  • Question
How long will it take for me to master the art and use of real swords?
    Yonaton Chanowitz
    Community Answer
To master it can take a lifetime. Using real swords only requires you to buy the necessary protective equipment and blunt steel sword, and join a HEMA group.
  • Question
Is there an option to carry my two handed sword on my back? Or is it to long to draw from my back?
    Jlegobot
    Community Answer
It depends on the sword, and your body type. If you have longer arms, and a shorter two-handed sword, then it is very possible.
  • Question
Does this also work with single-handed swords, or is there a different technique?
    Community Answer
Single-handed swordsmanship is a different beast. There are some similarities, but twice as many differences. Footwork is much more a key element here as well.
  • Question
How should I handle a short sword?
    Nish Ekee
    Community Answer
If the handle is of a standard two-handed sword size, then you have to stay as close as possible, but out of the opponent's strike range. Wait for the opponent to attack and then block it (or dodge, jump, anything you can do to defend against the attack). Then go for either the thigh or torso for your own attack. The opponent will either defend it or he will get hit. From there, go for quick, appropriate attack strings, and you will have either disarmed, knocked down, or stunned your opponent, making you the winner.
  • Question
How much does the average long sword weigh?
    Community Answer
Generally between two and six pounds, depending on size and material. As the swords get heavier, it's almost an exponential curve on the strength needed to wield it.
  • Question
Are the long swords better or two short katana-like swords?
    Techno274721
    Community Answer
A long sword is better than dual wield swords, as a long sword blocks and attacks with a great amount of force, making it hard for dual wielders to parry. It depends on experience: a highly experienced sword fighter would probably do better with a long sword, but novices would be better with dual wielding.
  • Question
Does the same kind of technique apply for a two-handed axe?
    Community Answer
No. All axes are two-handed. Swing them vertically or horizontally.
