  • Question
Do I have to give my name?
    Community Answer
No, you do not have to give your real name, but your first name is generally automatically given. If you don't want your real name to be given out, use a false name for your TripAdvisor account.
  • Question
Where do I describe exceptional service from an individual?
    Community Answer
Put it in the review itself.
  • Question
How do I post a review for an unlisted cafe?
    Community Answer
Type the city and the cafe name in the search boxes. If it's still unlisted on TripAdvisor, you'll be offered to create a new listing for it.
  • Question
What are the perks to writing a review on Trip Advisor? Maybe they could add discounts, etc. I've left a lot of reviews and was just wondering to myself after my last trip, "Why?"
    Community Answer
The perk is the knowledge that you're helping others. Other patrons can read your reviews and decide whether something is or is not worth their time and money, and if you shout out an especially helpful employee at a place you've visited, that person might get a "job well done" or even a raise from their boss. Discounts are always nice, but so is the feeling that you are part of a community of people looking out for each other.
  • Question
Can anyone see my email address if I write a review?
    Community Answer
No, they can only see your username and the optional photo you can provide.
  • Question
How do I change a review?
    Community Answer
Go to the TripAdvisor Help page. Type or choose "edit a review." You will have to remove the review first and then post it again after making your edits. In the answer, you're invited to click on the word "here," which leads to the removal page. I would copy the review into Word (or another text program) before removing it, edit it, and then re-post it.
  • Question
Can I write a review about how a hotel handled a room cancellation issue?
    Community Answer
Of course! Other people should know how the hotel treated you during a common problem.
  • Question
How do I review a place in it's native language?
    Community Answer
Search for an online language translator. You can just type your review in English, then copy and paste the translated version.
  • Question
I want to write a review but my mobile is telling me 3/ 600 minimum. How can I change it to maximum or infinite?
    Community Answer
Sorry, but there is a maximum character limit of 600, and a minimum of 3. You'll need to work with those limits.
  • Question
How do I delete a review that I wrote?
    Community Answer
Go to the TripAdvisor Help page. Type in or choose "remove/edit a review". In the answer, you'll find a link to the removal page. The deletion can take a few hours to be effective.
  • Question
How long does it take for the review to appear on pages?
    Community Answer
It should be pretty quick. The review appears first as "pending" (after a few minutes). Screening and final posting usually takes 1–2 days, in my experience.
  • Question
I tried to write a review for a hotel that I never stayed at because I had to cancel my booking and the staff were extremely rude. I wanted to talk about the terrible service. Why didn't it get published?
    Community Answer
Maybe they haven't had time yet. You can contact them and ask them to publish it again.
  • Question
How do I create an account on TripAdvisor?
    Community Answer
You can go to their website, and click on "log in." It will give you the option to "create account" if you do not have one already.
