Are you trying to write a gospel song, but get stuck in your tracks? The following might help you to get going again.

  1. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on what He wants you to do. [1]
  2. Sometimes they can inspire you. They may also give you a few ideas. But don't copy a line from a song, that's not truthful. [2]

  3. Do whatever you can to get your mind focused on your song. [3]
  4. Right-brained people may find it easier, but if you're a left-brained person, you might want to start from the beginning.
  5. It sounds better if you have a different note for each syllable. Say you have the phrase, "And now I know Jesus loves me!" Every word should have it's own notes. But, "And" could have a C, "now" could have an E, and "I" could have a C. Try what works for you. [4]
  6. If you want orchestration, do it now. Sometimes it's easier to find someone who has more experience in this area. [5]
  7. After that's done, sing the words along with it, and find several other people to sing it, or listen to it. Get their opinion.

  • Question
What is an example of a gospel song?
    Community Answer
Some of the most famous gospel songs include "This Little Light of Mine," "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," "Oh Happy Day," and "Joyful, Joyful." There are plenty more, but these are the first that come to mind.
  • Question
How do I find the inspiration for creating a song?
    Community Answer
The first thing to do is ask the Holy Spirit for inspiration and then keep an open mind. He can use everything and anything to inspire that great song. You should also create an inspiring environment (i.e keep distractions away, read the Bible, keep company with like-minded people, since iron sharpens iron).
  • Question
When composing a Gospel or worship song, is it better to try to think of a title first, or let it come out of the song afterwards?
    Wayne Adams
    Community Answer
Let it come out of the song afterwards. I have found that the title usually begins or ends and repeats itself through the song.

      Tips

      • Remember to write from you heart. And love it.
      • Do the title last. it's hard to come up with words to go with a title.
      • To compose music, you don’t need to be advanced in a dozen different instruments - in fact, you don’t even need to know how to play one. Just a little bit of music theory and a music editing software and you’re in there.
