Do all articles need to have 10 second summaries? I’ve noticed an admin adding them to some articles.

Thanks for asking! At this stage it’s actually a better idea not to add them to tons of topics, because they’re still in a fairly experimental place - the content folks at the wikiHaus are doing long-term testing on what style of summaries help readers, and on which kinds of topics, and getting enough helpfulness data back to make a call one way or another on that takes a long time (and can be a little case-by-case, anyway!). They’re keeping track of all the articles that do have them, and collecting feedback/data on those - and then eventually keeping them or tweaking them where they’re doing well, reverting them where they’re not, etc etc. So it’s best not to add them to articles that aren’t included in the experiments, really, just to keep the data consistent, especially at this stage where we’re not certain of how it’ll all shake out yet.

These summaries are already looking pretty strong as a method on tech topics, so that’s one area where we’re feeling pretty confident about them, even though the data is still trickling in. If you come across a tech topic that you could think could use a summary section, feel free to drop me a note and I can either get one written, or you can write one and I can make sure it’s included in the data tracking:slight_smile:

Any time! It’s going to be cool to see how this feature develops… I think it’s kind of a nice balance on lengthier topics, to get the short version and the detailed one. But we’ll have to see if real life readers agree:smiley:

@Anna - I’ve been adding these while revising some Windows 10 articles. I do agree that they speed things up for techies that just need to know how to do something, and can understand short instructions.:slight_smile:
