Tips Patrol is a great tool for getting new users engaged in editing and can be an awesome stepping stone into some of the other ways to contribute to wikiHow. But we all know that as a new user, it can be hard to distinguish what kinds of tips should be added and which kinds should be deleted. Right now a tip has two layers of quality control: tips patrol and recent changes patrol. While tips patrol filters out most of the bad tips, a lot still get through to RC. To help out with the issue of bad tips getting approved through Tips Patrol, the wikiHaus has added another layer of quality control. Previously, when a Tips Patroller publishes a tip, it went straight to Recent Changes Patrol. Now, when a Tips Patroller publishes a tip, it will go into Quality Guardian for a second round of verification. If a Quality Guardian user selects “Yes” to the tip, it will be published and then also go through RCP. However, if they select “No,” the Tip will be deleted. To try it out, go to the Quality Guardian , make sure “New Tips” is selected under “”Change options,” and give it a go! If you see any bugs or unexpected behavior, definitely let us know. Hopefully this will help make sure that great tips get added and not so great ones don’t!:slight_smile:Thanks to @JackHerrick for putting together this solution and @Agent86 for executing it!

Awesome – thanks everyone who worked hard to make this happen! I’ll be sure to try that out!

I am looking forward to seeing some positive results from this. Thank you.

Anna, I tried QG of Tips, and not only did it mark me down as patrolling Tips via QG, but it also marked me down as patrolling Tips through Tips Patrol, which I did NOT do.

@Byankno1 Yep, I saw that when I tried, too. Don’t worry - that’s being fixed up so it will log it in the right spot. Thanks though!

This is an amazing addition, and will greatly reduce the amount of trash that gets through tips patrol. Thank you Jack and Agent86:slight_smile:

I agree @mrappbrain !

This is great! Thanks to everyone at the wikiHaus for doing this:slight_smile:

I was suggested this blog by my cousin. I am not positive whether or not this post is written through him as nobody else know such detailed approximately my difficulty. You are amazing! Thanks!

Just a little update here – after a couple days live, we’ve realized we need to refine the system a little bit to make sure the approved Tips are showing up correctly in Quality Guardian, so there is a temporary hold on the “New Tips” in QG feature. It should only be a few days, though:slight_smile:In the meantime, Tips Patrol is still working! Feel free to patrol and reject or approve tips. And after the fix is pushed, any approved tips will show up in Quality Guardian for that second review. So it’ll be the same process, just with a little delay right now on them appearing in QG, so that the tool can be polished up into shipshape:slight_smile:

Tips in Quality Guardian should be live and kicking again now! I did some testing, along with the engineer, and it’s looking good so far. Let me know if you see anything “off” but hopefully it’s good to go:slight_smile:

Thanks @Anna for the heads-up! I didn’t see that the tips feature was on hold for a few days. When I saw that it wasn’t there, I was like, “Now, is it restricted to admins only!?”…

I keep seeing some of the same tips multiple times when I do Tips Patrol. Is this happening for anyone else? I doubt that this is related to the Tips section of Quality Guardian but thought I’d bring it up in case.

Nope, I haven’t seen those repeated tips. But it could be a bug. You can let @Anna or @Krystle know about it, and either of them will file a bug report to get it fixed:slight_smile:

@Elocina Yeah, I see what you mean - I do think that some tips are going around more than once. Some of it could be “user error” with multiple submissions, but I suspect it’s more than that. Not sure if it’s from this change or another, but I’m going to file a bug for it. I don’t think we can expect much movement on it over the holiday weekend, or even during the upgrade!:slight_smile:But I’ll file it none-the-less so it can get a fix! Thank you for the heads-up!

@Elocina Should be fixed now! I did a little testing on it, but let me know if it’s working for you, too, or if there are still some problems. Thanks Nicole!

I’m glad it’s fixed!

I experienced this same problem too, but it works normally now. Thanks!

I have a suggestion to improve tips in QG. How about introducing a quick edit button, to make some more edits to the tip before approving it?

The new feature is great and so is Abhi’s idea
