Can only admins add the username template to a user’s talk page?

I don’t believe there are any restrictions on the {{username}} template. So yes, non-admins can still send this message on someone’s talk page. That being said, we recommend also making a report on the admin notice board so admins can keep track of the user and take action if necessary.

The only talk page templates restricted to admins are {{blocked}} and {{under13}} because admins are the ones who can actually block users. Otherwise, all other templates can be used by anyone.

Hi Gravity_Cipher,

Yes, non-admins are allowed to add the username template on wikiHow. The username template is used to personalize messages or comments on wikiHow, and anyone can use it to address a specific user.To use the username template, simply type “{{username|username}}” in the message or comment, replacing “username” with the actual username of the user you want to address. For example, if you want to address a user named “JohnDoe”, you would type "

{{username|JohnDoe}}". This will automatically be converted to “ @JohnDoe ” when the message or comment is posted.

@Olivia_de What you’ve described is actually incorrect. The {{username}} template on wikHow is a message that’s sent to somebody when their username violates policy and encourages them to request a username change. It doesn’t ping, tag, or address users on a message or comment.
