Sorry for the weird question, but wondering

When I first registered on wikiHow and patrolled, you will see IP adresses forming a message here. I feel a bit behind noticing, but are IP Addresses even allowed to leave a message on their talk pages? I’m not sure at the moment since having Anonymous editors can leave some responses to my coaching.

Yup, unregistered/logged-out users can leave messages on talk pages, discussion pages, Help Team page, etc - basically any page that isn’t semi-protected.

Cool. It feels weird when the Anonymous Editors don’t even leave something on my talk page since it looks like they aren’t reacting to my patrolling.

Here are a few examples:

Oh yknow what, I was wrong above lol:sweat_smile:. Tried it on incognito mode and turns out you do need to be logged in to post messages. Seems like you can’t navigate to a talk or discussion page logged out because you get the “log in to view” message and pop-up box. It used to be that you could access these pages and post messages anonymously (note the time stamps on your archived messages) but guess it was changed during an update.

Anons were supposed to be able to leave messages on the Help Team page at least a couple years back - Discussion pages were deliberately disabled for them so we’d stop getting so much spam on them (don’t know if Talk pages were included in that as well), but the Help Team page was supposed to be accessible to them. I don’t know if the Help Team page was disabled for them as well, but if it was, that would’ve been a more recent change.

Talk pages were closed to anons this year, but the Help Team page is still available and can be used by anons:slight_smile:

So no more anonymous answer responses?

Can anonymous editors see coaching messages?

I tested that, and yes, they can see the messages. It’s just that they can’t reply.
