We saw some pretty rad edits across the site last week - lots of new topics by college students, but as usual, also tons of great edits in our community. Let’s celebrate a great week in wiki
Noteworthy Edits That Stood Out:
✯ @Byankno1
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Share-Your-Uber-Ride-with-Friends-in-Uber-Driver&diff=25430989&oldid=24158868
- Byankno1 did a thorough edit to update this topic for Uber Drivers. Even though it’s tricky to get screenshots during a ride, he captured those, too - which is great since lots of these Driver-focused articles otherwise remain imageless, because you have to be a Driver to take them.
✯ @Goodvillain034
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Surprise-Someone-on-Their-Birthday&diff=prev&oldid=25424027
- This is a small edit but a great example of the power of a wiki. I think of this every time I see an article out there on another site with a typo in i Typos happen to everyone, and they can be hard to spot when someone patrols or reviews and article. Homophones like this aren’t caught by the Spellchecker, either… but luckily on a wiki, a good ol’ helper like Goodvillain can come along, spot the issue, and take the time to fix it. Every little edit counts, and makes the page better for future readers.
✯ @MissLunaRose
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Overcome-a-Fear-of-Being-Kidnapped&diff=25432027&oldid=23607084
- This is a hefty expansion that takes the article from pretty stubby to much more thorough and well-sourced. What really caught my eye about it was how Luna included multiple sections to speak to people with different levels of concern, making sure to cover the wide audience that might end up on this page - from folks who just need a little myth-debunking to those with serious mental health concerns.
✯ @Vishshua
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Ask-a-Teacher-a-Question&diff=25436623&oldid=25436576
- Vish saw an opportunity for a not-so-Quick Edit while patrolling. She dove in to get a promising title off to a much better start, saving it from NFD. With a bit more cleanup and expansion, this one will be well on its way to helping lots of people.
✯ @Laura0681
and @P-Hills
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Get-a-Girl's-Attention-if-You-Are-a-Girl&diff=prev&oldid=25439605
and https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Get-a-Girl's-Attention-if-You-Are-a-Girl&diff=next&oldid=25439605
- This was a neat collaboration to see (even if the two editors didn’t realize they were collaborating at the time!). Laura tackled this one from the Format Greenhouse and got the article structure closer to our usual style, and then Patti dove in with some more wording ideas to make the page easy to skim and digest. Nice teamwork!
✯ @Apoc2626
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Be-a-Drum-Major&diff=prev&oldid=25433172
- Apoc did some thorough review here, making a few key edits in different places throughout the article to improve the accuracy, clarify the meaning, and add a missing category.
✯ @Kitty0
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Look-Awesome-for-Halloween-on-Animal-Jam&diff=prev&oldid=25443637
- Kitty knows Animal Jam well, and has become somewhat of a “curator” for the wikiHow Animal Jam category, often looking through the Topic Greenhouse to find articles that she can improve or template as needed. On this edit, she not only added a stub to encourage its development/expansion but also got the edit started with a much better introduction.
✯ @Awesome-Aasim
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Record-Skype-Video-Calls-on-Android&diff=prev&oldid=25440248
- Aasim noted a significant Skype update - their release of a screen recording feature - and has been fixing up a number of wikiHow articles to keep them as accurate and helpful as possible. On this one, his edits kept the steps that were still relevant but removed and simplified the extra steps no longer needed. Thanks to Skype’s updated software and Aasim’s updated edit, it’ll be much easier for readers to get this task done, now.
✯ @Hailey
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Hard-Reset-Your-Apple-iMac-to-Factory-Settings&diff=25457046&oldid=25456525
- Hailey did a great boost here, to help out the student author. She took care of some basic formatting and cleanup, and took the article up a notch by adding button and keypress templates, before putting it live (and no doubt helping them get a good grade, in the process!).
✯ @Arlenea12
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Make-a-Text-Design-with-PicsArt&diff=25452405&oldid=25424459
- Arlenea built upon what she’d already started here to change the focus of the article from outlining one very specific text design to teaching the reader about all of the text/design-related options in PicsArt. Now, a reader will be able to use the steps and suggestions to customize with their own design, making it applicable to a lot more people.
✯ (Newbie) @TheMole
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Code-an-Infinite-Loop-Using-Javascript&diff=prev&oldid=25417236
- TheMole spotted some Javascript he could fix and dove in on this and another similar topic. He cleaned up the code on the other to make it more concise and simple to use for the newbie reader.
✯ (Newbie) @Icypropel
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Button-Mash&diff=25434020&oldid=25433982
- Icypropel dove in on a stubby topic and added a new “advanced” method for gamers. On a topic like this where there are lots of different methods to achieve the end goal, it’s great to see folks with personal experience sharing what works for them. Their description was thorough and helpful, too, even for non-gamers.
✯ (Newbie) @RJGamesAhoy
on https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Get-Better-at-Roblox-Phantom-Forces&diff=25437530&oldid=24592293
- RJ undertook a hefty task here, expanding a video game stub to include lots of information that was missing. Now that the new advice is on the page, they or another editor can format it, and in due course this page will end up in much better shape to offer solid advice for Roblox gamers.
