I have a hp compaq desktop in my office  and a hp laptop in the warehouse.They are both connected to a dsl modem.

They are in same building and I want myboth pcs to share all data,mostly saved  on my desktop pc.  I intend to connect them via ethernet port ,do i need a crosslink cable ?

Can I still internet ,seperated,with both pcs  if I disconnect the laptop from modem? 

My desktop remains connected to modem ?

Does the connection transfer all  icons on my desktop to my laptop ?
