Jack Herrick founded wikiHow in 2005, fueled by the same educational mission that guides the site today. To ensure the company achieved this mission over the long term, Jack refused venture capital funding and opportunities to sell the company to larger publicly traded corporations. wikiHow remains a hybrid organization, a for-profit company focused on achieving a socially positive mission.

Hah, always a trip to see them laid out like that… who was here for the oldest versions? Perhaps @Loiswade42
@Davecrosby
@Zack
I joined during V4 myself
Thanks for putting this together, @WF

@WF
, thanks for putting all of this together. It certainly shows how far wikiHow has come over the years!
Nice. Yep, 2007… I remember when Spotlight Articles were a new thing.

@Davecrosby
Not calling you wikiOld, but all signs indicate a certain wikiMaturity…

@Anna
, I prefer maturity over old all the time!

Five years ago in 2013, when I knew nothing of wikiHow and only used the Internet to play games…wow that looks so different!

Dave, you’re aging well!
I joined during V2 and I definitely remember each of these site designs. It’s such a neat Déjà vu to see these.

Ah, the nostalgia! Good memories of the V3 (2008) design when I first discovered wikiHow, and the V4 (2010) design when I finally had the guts to join and started becoming very active. And the rest is history…
Thanks @WF
for sharing this cool throwback

wikiHow has definitely improved over the years.
V2 looks so raw and original. V3 resembles Wikipedia a bit. I remember seeing v4 and trying my hand at it but I felt really lost at that age. Thank God I found this community. Where else would I find such acceptance and experience! Jack must have some very strong backing to not turn wH into a profit making site. I remember an old post where he shared that funding wH was not all that easy. I want to learn more from his experience. Its high time he writes a book. Whatsapp was sold to Mark Z for $13billion. WF you are really cool to dig deep and get all this. I admire your curiosity. It brings wisdom.
I joined during v 4, so the rest is rather nostalgia that I never got to see or interact with. However, when my brother came in sometime in 2010 (he was underage at the time, contributing under my birth year) he does recognize that v3 design. I vaguely remember v3 but it wasn’t until v4 that I had the guts to even do the first “real” search and stuck on wikiHow…
I guessed you used internet archive. Almost everybody has used it.
I know right! I like the current version because it just simply looks like itself.
I miss the “Powered by MediaWiki” text at the bottom
It is good to know that specific software powers a specific wiki so that others who want a copy of the software can get it. But then on the other side, it does look a bit like unintentional advertising.
Wow @WF
how did you find all this? I’m very impressed! Did you find wikiHow a long time ago!?
