so I may soon be getting a cat, I have been doing some research but would like to know if any of you can help me by giving me some tips on how to take care of a cat.

and like good food and litter brands things like that .

Wherever you get your cat from should be able to advise you. A responsible breeder or well organised pet shelter that re-home cats will tell you about caring for you cat. If you are buying a cat from a pet shop or getting a kitten or cat from a friend or family member, ask your vet about caring for your cat when you take it for a check up. If you ate buying a cat from a stranger or adopting one from someone you don’t know, think carefully. They should be able to tell you the cat’s likes and dislikes, if they can’t, the genuine need for the cat’s rehoming is in question. https://www.wikihow.com/Buy-Necessary-Supplies-for-Your-New-Cat https://www.wikihow.com/Bring-a-New-Cat-or-Kitten-Home https://www.wikihow.com/Be-Responsible-when-You-Have-a-Cat https://www.wikihow.com/Know-if-You-Are-Ready-for-a-Cat

It depends on where you live… some places may not sell the most fancy stuff and/or the cheapest stuff doesn’t always make the cut!

Also NEVER shop! Always adopt from a shelter or responsible, honest and reliable breeder that you know cuz all too often, irresponsible breeders and shops will lie to you and give you bogus information plus sometimes they will scam you of your money! All too often pets from these people are riddled with diseases and problems that have not been treated or vaccinated… so don’t get one from them!

I have 2 cats of my own so I know some helpful tips:slight_smile:

  1. Get plenty of scratching posts and place them in different places, rather than all in one room.

  2. Switch brands of food every week or so cuz cats often become fussy and stop liking one kind of food. So if you switch them around, they won’t get bored! Also give them wet and dry food, I give my cats dry food at lunchtime and again in the evening which keeps them happy:slight_smile:

  3. Have plenty of toys and play with them daily so they won’t attack you or your family/friends or your furniture! Tire them out with playtime and they will not do any of this!

  4. Make sure to get insurance on your cat, sure it can be expensive but if you do your homework/research, you can find the best deal for the right price so that if your feline friend has an accident or gets sick, you don’t have to pay a fortune for it!

  5. Plenty of space and fresh air is good for your cats, they hate to be cramped in small places. If you live in a flat or small apartment, make the most out of the space you got and clear out anything you don’t need to make room for the cat!

  6. NEVER declaw them! Declawing is just wrong, that is why you need plenty of scratching posts…so your cat doesn’t mess up your furniture! If it still does this, there are other ways to prevent it… Such as tiring them out with play, clipping their claws (there are videos that show you how to do this without hurting the cat) and protective covers that you can put over the furniture!

Give them lots of love, play with them, pet them, but give them lots of places to nap and time alone too.

Try to train them to eat one or two meals of wet food per day.

Experience is the bes tthing you can have when it comes to a cat, so… good luck! Enjoy your new pet!
