Hi everyone, it’s Delilah - Rae!There is something that I am passionate about that I would like to share with you.

I have been bullied on the Internet before, but am still dedicated to it, mostly to make it safer and meet new, kind people. I get angry very easily, so this may just be me overreacting.

I realised that TikTok is owned by China, which if I’m correct, stores many, many things about data and details. This means that they get to note your face, your real name, and your location. This is not me saying that I don’t like China, it’s the most wonderful place, but I think there needs to be more precautions about safety and keeping things private.

On YouTube, there are so many arguments in the comments of videos! People are cussing, making fun of each other, mocking each other’s details like name, sexuality, looks and race. There is also a lot of horrible videos on there too, like horror clips, inappropriate parodies, and cruel pranks and hate videos posted without people’s permission.

On Minecraft and Skindex, so many people make joke accounts to troll people, break people’s creations and hack people’s accounts. I’ve experienced a lot of hate coming from that direction, and that’s why I joined wikiHow. I wanted a life away from that area.

Please, please, join Discord or another community that is set on making the Internet a safer place. We need heroes to make a stand. As Malala Yousafzai said: “When the whole world is silent, one voice can become powerful.” I want to change the world, like my role model Greta Thunberg. She’s changed the whole world, and has helped stir this troubled planet into a much - needed change. I want to make a stand, and rid the internet of danger. Who wants to help me on my quest to make this a safer place?

Ok, maybe another way to do that is to create a wikihow article about it :D.

I agree with your opinion.

Thanks @FlowerPower555 for your message!

Good idea, maybe that can be a collab project! I’ll post a discussion later maybe!

I’m pretty sure there’s already an article about it though.

ok, there are articles about being safe on the internet, but none about how to MAKE it a safer place…

Unfortunately, there’s just some aspects of the internet that we, as users, have no control over - we can’t control what other people do, and Discord honestly isn’t much safer than any of the sites or games that you mentioned. Not to mention it’s not just China that collects personal information - there are many other countries that do it, too. (Google and Apple track your location even if you have Location Services off, and those are American companies.) Just as we can’t stop someone from being mean in real life, we can’t stop people from being mean on the internet. In fact, the internet’s actually better in that regard - if someone’s being a jerk online, we can block them, unlike real life:slight_smile:

Your goals are admirable. It’s best to start by focusing on keeping yourself safe online, and treating people online kindly. And if all else fails and people just aren’t being nice, block them or leave the website or game they’re part of. We may not be able to change other people’s behavior, but we can change our own.

@Galactic Radiance well, I know that I can’t make it safe, but I believe that I can make it safer.

Anything I can do to help, I will. All I want to do is to raise awareness. You may not believe this, but I think that if we all work together, we can make a difference.

Oh sorry about the link mistake oop-

Huh. Well, we can make it a project together.

I’ve published the article. I’m in a rush, so it’s incomplete. I’ve added the inuse tag. Feel free to edit, but DON’T REMOVE THE TAG.

Everyone, please help edit [[Help Make the Internet a Safer Place]] , it means a lot to me and @FlowerPower555 .

Since there’s an inuse tag, Ill leave some steps here - Under the step on reporting bad stuff, there could be a list of the things that can be reported. Such as * Child porn * Porn with family members like siblings and mothers and, fathers! I remember a givernement website where such sites could be reported. So, I will look it up and link here. All you have to do is click on the flag cobtent as inappropriate or report content option on the webpage. A number of sites stay on top with high ratings. So, a step could be rating unsafe sites low. Facebook has been proven to be selling user data. On google playstore, these apps can be given the least star rating. * Write reviews. Writing reviews about websites that sell user data. This option is also available on playstore. Others could be added. * Spread the word. We can let our friends know about websites that sell our info. We should prompt online members to delete their address or contact details if they have mentioned it. * Delete apps. We can delete them after we have permanently deleted our account on it. * Don’t download apps that show as a flash message while surfing. * Carefully read relevant terms and conditions. Some apps need a number of unrelated access to our files and apps. We can ask in a mailnaddressed to them if it has any relevance to them. Just like google has been questioned to have had access to our device and its files. * There might be an official website where bad websites can be listed. I can search that too. * Changing our accounts privacy settings. From visible to all, it can be changed to visible to friends and so on. This way we are less vulnerable to sites and people who randomly use your email and username to contact you. If they don’t have anything to see, it will discourage such actions. I have these for now. If I get more ideas, I will be sure to make a note.

@VY , I’ll try my best to add them, but it’s best if you do it in your own words. Again, I said that it’s fine to edit this article when the inuse tag is on. The only reason for it being there is because it’s kind of incomplete.

Thanks. I actually wanted to write myself. Your writing is also pretty neat. Paired with the correct images, it looks like an experts work. I’ll edit it. Thanks dearest.:slight_smile:Edit: I’ll do it tomorrow morning, when I start editing.:slight_smile:Edit2: You did it in less than 2 mins. How are you so fast!! Very good.

It’s added. Let me know if you have any concerns :D.

Something I think is worth considering is that the laws are different everywhere. There are websites that would have been pulled down under US law that are still up because they’re not hosted in the US, and so forth. Some laws, like not hosting child pornography, are universal, but many are not. A lot of websites devoted to smack-talking or bullying others are protected under US free speech laws as well, as long as they’re not crossing into harassment, threats, or hate speech. That needs to be addressed rather than a blanket “this is what you should report”.

Also, in its current state, I’m not sure how much the article is actually focused on making the internet itself a safer place? Talking to your kid about the dangers of the internet isn’t going to make the internet safer, that’s just taking action to protect your kid. Deleting harmful apps just keeps you safer, and app reviews can be faked (you’d want to get harmful apps taken off the app stores, not just leave bad reviews). Being positive just makes it more pleasant to be online. Asking permission to use pictures is following copyright law and has nothing to do with safety. So on and so forth. In its current state, the content feels like it would be a duplicate of Be Safe on the Internet.

(edit) I may also be undereducated, but I don’t know how much people can do on their own to make the internet safer. That’s something that feels like it’s left a lot to websites themselves, and to laws and legislation, rather than the users (where the most they can really do is report something). What about the legal aspect, pushing for legal change, to make the internet safer?

………This is turning out to be harder than I thought!

The inuse tag will probably be there for a while! I’m going to attempt to do more research. I want to make this happen…

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks for the tip @GalacticRadiance . @FlowerPower555 , @Delilahlulu and others, let’s try to add one more step about legal actions. May someone will find the information useful. Alex, Please can you throw more light on this? How it is a duplicate? I know from the merge policy that content can be similar however, the titles should not be duplicates. Thank you keeping us united with your curious questioning and the quality feedback. It is appreciated.
