Remember a bunch of years ago when people set up an account and then tried to link it via the Facebook login button on wikiHow?  Yeah. It was a problem that existed in 2011 and finally got finished in 2012 when the problem was fixed. I had one of these weird ones, that I was able to merge to this account, keeping my Byankno1 account as my “master” account. However, over the weekend, when I click on the Facebook connect button, it connects me to the account I merged a few years ago.

I tried to remove the wikiHow account link access in my Facebook app preferences, but no dice. This old “named” Cb… (remainder of username omitted for privacy as its my entire last name) still opens. As of Friday, when I logged into wikiHow with the Facebook connect button, it used to connect me to my Byankno1 account. On a more personal level, I don’t mind typing my Byankno1 account credentials in the box (until this is fixed), but the one-touch typing would make it 10x easier (especially when I’m logged into Facebook in my browser all-the-time!).

I know I didn’t clear my cookies, nor my History folder nor any other saved data in my browser that could be saved, so I don’t know what’s going on. Seems like a site-only issue, though my Twitter account was also showing something I fixed in 2010 (even from a different computer). I checked this username problem on another computer and it’s still got the problem.

Thanks for reporting this, Byankno. I know that both social log-in and merged accounts can be really finicky- lots of complicated interactions based on what social accounts you’re logged into at the time and on old data and connections in our system. So I’m afraid I’m not certain there will be a fix here for an edge case like this, at least in the short term. But I will pass it on and do some testing on the social linking feature and see if we’ve got a wider issue at play that might be addressable. Good to hear you can still log-in manually in the meantime! Thanks again:slight_smile:

Good news to report here.  Thanks to whoever looked into this, I am now able to connect to my Byankno1 account again using Facebook.  Thank you.  The team seemed clear my former settings and reset this issue to square one so all I had to do was relink again.  I then tried to log out and log back in using Facebook.  This should work, thanks to their actions. Whoever it was, a big shout out: “Thank you” and a big hug or handshake. :)
