When I first started here, I ended up splitting a big article into several distinct smaller articles. However, with some help of another editor (rather not name names here), the editor decided to create two super-long(more than 4 sentences worth) introduction. Although the rest of the article is very well constructed, when it was determined that introductions should be no more than 3-4 sentences(per the Editathon in February 2013), these two articles now have very verbose introductions. I keep looking at them, and don’t know where to start. I remove something that’s major, it’s going to cherish the article. I’m loathe to shorten intro’s, as this is the only real place any pertinent info that cannot be related in a step is put. However, this surely allows for more editorializing also (guilty), and these both strike me as editorials. Sorry, um, Gary, I’m guessing?
@Hi
Byankno1, it’s tough to do a maintenance to the Intro. If I were you, I’d leave alone the first article… As for the second article where I see and agree with you that the Intro IS quite long , this is what I would do: a) cut the part that follows a space off the Intro (or, from the words "Let this article help you understand the system… ") b) insert a “shaded” paragraph (like this: ===paragraph===) before the Steps c) give it a name, and include the ‘cut-off’ part in there. This is the best I can suggest. Good luck to you, Chris.
I’ve made a few edits to both. I’ve moved some information from the introduction to the discussion page (the area that advised users to not do damage to the article), as well as rm introduction area advising of the opposite article(since they are linked to each other from their Related wikiHows sections. It’ll need a little bit more cleaning up, but it’s coming along splendidly.
