I’m talking about some Animal Jam articles, on how to be ‘cool’ ‘pretty’ etc. I used to take them for granted, and even contributed, but now I’m against them. There is no universal ‘cool’ or ‘pretty’, everyone has a differant opinion and its pointless and even offensive (Random person: I thought I was pretty:frowning:Article: not unless you wear THIS and choose THESE colors), perhaps it could be added to the Deletion Policy or at least remove the current ones, if not then its fine.

I feel like the articles don’t say " YOU MUST WEAR UGG BOOTS AND YOGA PANTS OR YOU ARE HIDEOUS AND DESERVE TO DIE!!!11!!!1!!" (or if they do, they should be edited). I think the articles say more stuff like “Consider wearing clothes that go together. Some examples might be XYZ.” I could see adding a tip or something at the bottom saying that your opinion is the most important, and if you think something is pretty than it is. So, maybe a standard or guideline could be set for these articles, but I don’t think we need to go as far as deleting them.

All the opinion articles drive me mad too. wikiHow wants to teach everyone how to do everything right, you can’t teach popularity, or coolness. What’s popular at one school or college might be really out at another. Many articles suggest you can’t be popular unless you are blonde with light skin - that is offensive. All the Emo and Goth and Preppy type articles are nearly as bad, WHY does everyone need a label?

They don’t, but there are multiple definitions of pretty, and they say ‘wear thus or this and this’ and ‘you need to be member’ and whatnot.

Very good point! I could get behind removing articles of this sort from the database. Please be aware, however, that a policy change of this magnitude would require a consensus of community members to change our existing “laissez-faire” policy towards them. Whew, that looks like some work, but this is a problem I’m seeing, at least in Animal Jam articles.

I’m fairly certain that nobody has ever considered our Animal Jam articles to be the most amazing ones on the site. I don’t think the articles need to be deleted, just maybe reworded so that the advice is more suggestive and open to many different styles.

What about the How to Like…this, that or the other articles? Really, many of those are just people’s opinions. How to appreciate…I can get behind, but Like, sigh, surely people either like something or they don’t.

Policy changes ARE a lot of work… but they’re not impossible. The question to ask yourself is whether (or not) you’re willing to spend the time and effort it will take to convince a lot of other people to go along with your suggestion. You would have my vote…:slight_smile:
