Hi all,

Zygomatt recently noted that Canadians can now call or text 988 to reach the Canadian Suicide Crisis Helpline, so we’re looking to update certain articles to include this information.

If this project feels a little familiar, that’s because we updated the US contact information to 988 last year when the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline changed its name and contact number. Although it’s the same number, the Canadian line has a slightly different name (Suicide Crisis Helpline) and a different website ( https://988.ca ).

Some of these articles may contain tough or triggering topics, so please do not feel obligated to participate. However, if you would like to help with this project, please check out the instructions below:

  1. Go to the spreadsheet here .
  2. Put your username in Column B of the articles you’re going to work on.
You can do as many as you like, but please only claim up to 10 at a time.
  3. Edit the article to include Canada wherever contact information for a suicide helpline is given. Please match the format of the other contact information in the article.
You can search for “988” in an article to find all places where it needs updating, because that will already be in the article for the US.
See below for examples of how to update an article.
  4. Add a summary like “Updating contact info” and publish the change.
  5. Mark as complete in the spreadsheet and write any notes in Column D.

Example 1:
Find:
In the United States: call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. <ref>https://988lifeline.org/</ref>

Add a line underneath, matching the existing format: In Canada: call or text 988, the Suicide Crisis Helpline. <ref>https://988.ca</ref>

Example 2:If there is a mention of contacting 988 within an article but it doesn’t list numbers for different countries, you may be able to add Canada to the info by changing the wording a little. This can be a little trickier, because of the different names the US and Canadian organizations have. However, you could refer to a general “suicide crisis helpline” instead. For example:
