I’ve recently been experiencing a bug on the forums showing that I’m logged out when I never have been, and it seems this is happening now on the main site too. When I first open wikiHow it shows me as logged in, but every so often it will show the logged out/unregistered version of the site randomly instead. When I try to log back in, I get the “502 Bad Gateway” error page, and have to go back to access the site again.

Yep. Same thing has happened to me several times. I’ll attempt to log in… get the 502 error… click away from the site… then click back on the wikihow link again and get through “as if” I’d logged in. Very weird.

Doing that to me too on Google Chrome…
I’m getting logged out and I know for sure I did not press the log out button. I already had to log back in three times. Except I’m not getting the 502 error like you guys did.

Same. It’ll just randomly log me out and in. o_O Freaky…

@Jenny112233
and @Cece123
do you access wikiHow from more than one computer?
Sorry about this bug! We are working on it. No magic solution yet…but we are trying!

Krystle-- Yep, I do. Two computers (both of which nobody else ever goes on) and an iPod, also which no one else uses.

Has this been resolved yet? Thanks.

@Flickety
Not yet. Are you experiencing it too?
I don’t know if this is the same issue, but I am finding that once I close a browser window, I have to log back in, if I want to get back on wikiHow next time I come back to the computer. This is a problem because I have a particular page which I keep open on my tabs, so that I can just pop in for a minute or two when I get a break in the other things I am doing. When I am logged in all day, I get into that page quite a bit during the day. Now that I have to add Log-in time to that, as well as bypass-the-bad-gateway time, I have less time to check the articles on my list. Not to mention a reason not to look at the list at all, because of the extra time and attention required just to see the list. Again, I am not sure if this is an issue related to the bad-gateway issue, and the issue being discussed above. This is happening on Windows 7 when I use Firefox, or when I use Chrome.
Unfortunately this bug is still with us. We are working on it as hard as we can though. Last night we ran a script to try to log in thousands of times and couldn’t duplicate this which makes it hard for us to solve. We’re not giving up though.
Yes, I do. I was using my DSi then. It kept on logging me out for some reason. I cleared my history and it did log me out one more time. I was in the forums when I encoutered this. Right now I’m using a computer and so far it is not loggind me out.
Could this be a regional thing, affecting only people who live in certain areas at the end of certain parts of the network, or something? It seems like you are saying no one in the main office is having any of these problems.

@Krystle
@Jack
Thanks for your answers. Reuben, Chris, and Jack were aware of my concerns about this some weeks back. I am still in a “holding pattern” with regards to signing out though. As in, I don’t dare at the moment because when I do, I don’t seem to be able to sign back in. On any computer.

Are there any updates on this bug? Seems to be happening more frequently now.
Flickety, have you tried the Bad Gateway trick? Some of us are finding that once you get that page, you actually are logged in, even though it seems you are not logged in. So the trick is to hit the back button. At that point, hitting any link on the page will show you that you are in fact logged in. Maybe we should post these instructions on the log in page.

No new developments, except that this is still being investigated urgently.
