Whenever you revert an edit in RC Patrol (RCP reverted edits by …), and when it goes through patrol again, you can’t revert the edit. You have to manually go to Advanced> View Diff> and then revert. It will say that the edit can’t be reverted and how it made no actual change.
Here’s the problem: new patrollers will believe that it has already been patrolled, and mark the revert as patrolled even if it’s bad. When I was new, I just marked all those reverts as patrolled, too!
This can allow bad reverts to pass, and it should be fixed.
If I’m thinking of what you’re saying, this has been going on for quite a while! I’ve always just assumed it was me.
Hi @WikiaWang
, I’m not sure if I completely follow this, but if someone reverts an edit, you can still change it back (for example this revert could be rolled back if desired: https://share.getcloudapp.com/rRulPdp0
).
If someone makes and edit and then reverts it themselves before it goes into RC patrol, then you would just approve it, because there are no changes to revert. I have come across this before and it stumped me for a second why I couldn’t revert the revert, but it was because there was no change :)
If this doesn’t cover what you’re talking about, feel free to find a specific example and/or screenshot and post it here :)
@JayneG
Yes, I see what you mean, but might not be what I’m saying…
There’s the “RCP reverted edits by 204.116.213.126
( talk
) to revision #27669780
by Ruah
” and “Reverted edits by SummerSnowman
( Talk
); changed back to last version by Annelise Albert Hall
.” These 2 reverts are somewhat different…
If an edit that has been reverted in RCP (RCP reverted edits…), and you press the rollback button, it’ll just say how the edit made no actual change, and something like it already has been reverted. Then, I’ll go check the history and see that the edits hasn’t been reverted, and I have to manually open the diff page and press the rollback button, and the summary will be “Reverted edits by…”
However, and edit that has been manually reverted can be reverted in RCP, just you can’t revert RCP reverts in RCP. I’ll take a screenshot…
Here we go (Also, I didn’t spend so much time, so things might be sloppy. :D):
Also, it’s in chronological order.
Here’s an example of a regular revert, and how the rollback button works:

Thanks @WikiaWang
. Can you let me know how often you experience the need to do this? I think this is the way that RC Patrol has always been and there hasn’t been a strong enough need arise that we would need that functionality, but if it’s becoming an issue, then we can potentially consider looking into adding the functionality.
@JayneG
After a couple of encounters, I know that it’s not possible to revert those reverts in RCP, so I’ll open the diff log.
Here’s the problem though: new patrollers probably don’t know and will mark it as patrolled even if it’s suppose to be reverted. I’ve spotted a couple of times where bad reverts slip through RCP and had to check the logs to see who patrolled it. They’ll attempt to click Rollback, and when it doesn’t work, will mark it as patrolled. This has been a long-time issue, and it can damage wikiHow’s reputation when new users try to revert RCP reverts. I think there should be some sort of fix where it’s possible to revert RCP reverts.
