Today I am releasing an UNOFFICIALtool for adding related wikiHows to dead end articles. Dead end articlesare articles which have NOlinks to other wikiHow articles. There are currently around 30,000dead end articles. Thus, I want to enable more people to add related wikiHows at a faster rate by automatically choosing articles & suggestions. In the past few months we have knocked the number down significantly:=========== Credits ===================== * @Ttrimm , beta testing and for giving me hosting for the scripts and download:slight_smile:* @Maniac for beta testing and giving me ideas/bug reports * I used button graphics from wikiHow for a more home-like feel =========== Features ===================== * Skip will take you to next article without publishing * Publish will publish the related wikiHows to the article * Search will allow you to search for more articles using a keyword * Level and location are fun additions to give incentive; will show hiscores later. * Hidden easter egg, I’ll see if you can find it:slight_smile:=========== Prerequisites ================== * Windows Installer 3.1 * .NET Framework * Possibly Internet Explorer, but this is installed by default on Windows unless you explicitly removed it. It should install these automatically so you shouldn’t have to worry about them. =========== Screenshot =============================== Important ==================== * Do NOTput bug reports, feature requests, etc. for this in Bug Reports (that is for official wikiHow code). Use my talk page or this forum thread instead. * Don’t click every single suggestion for every single article. If every suggestion were good we’d just have a script do it, right? It needs human intervention to decide if a suggestion is good enough. * Source code is not open because of the easter egg/future easter eggs * I would love to write cross-platform but VB.NET is all I can manage right now:slight_smile:* I won’t be responsible for your usage of the tool, but I will fix something if the software was the problem (it has been tested thoroughly) =========== Download ===================== * http://ttrimm.com/relateds/Relateds.zip Just unzip and run setup.exe Questions? I’ll answer them in this thread or on my talk page or in IRC:slight_smile:

Will look into, thanks:slight_smile:

This has been tested on Windows 7. Let me know if you use a different OS:slight_smile:

The list of potentials don’t always relate to the obvious keywords, like the word Popular, Princess, etc, but plugging a similar main action adjective or noun pulls up decent results. At least this tool is easy enough for a novice like me to use, granted my additions are probably already reverted by sharp patrollers>

Thanks for the feedback

Just to confirm, I am using 7 Ultimate, and haven’t had the problem Mike is talking about above, if the Browser matters, I use IE9, I think.

Shouldn’t this have been released for the Dashboard instead of stand-alone?

This is awesome SudoKing! Thank you so much for developing and sharing this! @Byankno1 This tool was created by SudoKing and not by the wikiHow engineers. The dashboard shows tools which are supported by the wikiHow engineers. If you encounter any issues with this tool, please be sure to notify SudoKing, and not the “bug reports” forum as this is a tool our engineers are not familiar with:slight_smile:

OK @Krystle . Thanks for letting me know.

Awesome! Since it’ll download things I’ll check with my brother first, but I don’t think there’ll be a problem.

Although you’ve never encountered any of my articles yet, as long as the articles come close, I wouldn’t mind, and therefore wouldn’t revert any edit you make.

Cool @SudoKing ! Thanks for developing your own tool! Neat.

Sudo, this looks sweet, and it did help me make this edit: http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Combine-Like-Terms&diff=prev&oldid=7170183 I can’t get past “Combine Like Terms” with the app though. I’ve tried both Publishing and Skipping, but no dice. Re-started app and got a new article but the same problem came after I handled that one.

I use Windows 7.

FWIW (possibly nothing), my wi-fi at home is pretty lackluster. Pages load a little slowly at times.
