Since NAB grows so much everyday I think we should go straight to the problem and stop people from being able to create new articles. We really wouldn’t miss out on much and for those wanting to write a legitimate article they will come back later. If we could just have one week where nobody wrote articles we could get down the backlog by 500 easily.

I think someone suggested that before. I don’t think this would be a good idea. Even for one week, it wouldn’t work out. wikiHows purpose is writing and editing new articles each day.
Wikihow is a how-to website whose important feature is letting the community contribute their knowledge. If we removed the “write article” button, where would the “Wiki” in “Wikihow” be?

The point of a wiki is to work on articles collaboratively. Creating your own articles but not helping articles wrote by others isn’t really a wiki.
I recommend that this thread be swiftly closed by an admin. Quite bluntly, doing this would go directly against wiki principles, and something like this would never obtain consensus. While the NAB backlog is bad, its not like we need to declare martial law and shut down the site over it.

I’m sure they still edit other articles too, or maybe they don’t have time. It could be anything.

Yet you want to declare martial law and close down this thread? Interesting paradox. I agree that this is unlikely to gain consensus and be implemented, but at this point, what is the harm in talking about it? Just because people (you) don’t like it doesn’t mean the conversation should be shut down.
