A little over a month ago, @IShareMahKnowledgeWisely
had an idea for a Request Guardian that never got executed. I personally think that we need this, with nearly 500,000 requests as of 9/10/2011. http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/1936/new-tool-idea-request-guardian
For those of you who have no idea what this is, and how I understand it is, the Request Guardian is very similar to the Quality Guardian and the NFD Guardian. This, however, will let you a) skip it b) write the article c) change the title and write it and d) nominate for termination. If there are three votes to delete, the article gets deleted. In my opinion, we need to create this tool. Any comments?

I’m not really sure what I think of this. As is, I know that admins (and possibly boosters, I can’t quite remember) can use http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestedTopics
and http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestions
. Just throwin’ that out there. So, what was the conclusion the first time this got discussed?
I still hold the same view on it today as I did then; we need it. Thanks, Jirachi Queen. =)
Isabelle, you’re a genius! This could be exactly what we are looking for. This http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestions
, is only for admins, I think, but this http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestedTopics
works just fine for Boosters. Thanks again!

The aforementioned tool (ManageSuggestedTopics) is only for topics currently waiting to be accepted for the request queue. As far as I’m aware, the titles listed in there are not actually already requests…they are suggestions for requests. How a title gets into that tool I don’t know, but I searched for a few of those titles (in the requests) and they did not appear…thus, I don’t think they’re visible to anyone on the site just yet. Approving requests in that tool queue will add to our current request count…rejecting them will simply remove them from the tool queue.
Oh. If that’s the case, then maybe we need the Request Guardian after all.
^ Better yet, make RG simple and open to all users. Misuse, of course, will likely result in a friendly warning, then perhaps a block for vandalism if it continues.
I don’t think it is the best to leave it open to all users, just ones that get permission from an admin. That way, wikiHowians that are not admins or boosters but are still good contributes who have the policies down can use the RG.
Also, I don’t think that we should have a strict rule on who/who cannot do the RG, like at least 300 edits or month on wikiHow. It’s not fair to the good contributors who do not meet these standards, or vice versa. Just my thoughts.
^ RG users at Admin discretion…even better. If enough users get approved, we could cut down on at least a hundred thousand requests…and still be able to write the rest.
I can’t wait to get to get started!
…But how will we set up the tool? We could make it a similar format to the QC and the NFD Guardian. But, then again, I don’t know how to make tools.
We just need mass consensus. Support, guys?
