At this year’s meetup in Minneapolis , we chatted about possible locations for the next community get-together, and someone raised the question of a wikiHaus-based meetup. It might be news to some newer wikiHowians, but we actually once had a meetup in Palo Alto. However, that was back in 2008, so it’s been over a decade now!

I know lots of wikiHowians are curious about the wikiHaus - some have made it out to visit us, but many are still waiting to make the trek. Someone brings up the wikiHaus meetup idea almost every year. Since it’ll be 11 years since the last wikiHaus-based meetup, we’ve decided to return to Palo Alto again. So save the date for the 2019 meetup: May 3-5, 2019, here in Palo Alto, CA.

The setup will be a little different from what we’ve done in recent years. We’ll have a room block at a hotel within walking distance, but we’ll spend our days at the wikiHaus and eat meals either at the Haus or at restaurants in the local area. Other than that, the vibe and events should feel pretty familiar to people who’ve attended before:slight_smile:

So save the date!  If you’ve never been to a meetup before, definitely consider it - it’s so great when we get to connect in person and talk about our mission face to face.  Invitations will go out in early 2019 and will be based on active participation, so please remain active if you’d like to join us.

I’m excited to finally give you guys a tour of the wikiHaus!

WOOHOO!!! Can’t wait!!!

Hello Jack:slight_smile:A meetup in the haus? The most fun place in Palo Alto! Lucky guys, who’ll get to attend it!

Woo!  Let’s DO it!

I’m super stoked about this! It’ll shake up my planning MO a little, but I think that’ll be worth it, to finally have you all at the actual wikiHaus. To be fair, it’s probably a less exciting place than you might imagine  ( @Vishshua   I saw your post on the other thread, about it being the coolest office ever… probably not, hah. We love it, but it’s simple and homey, not glam and glitz!). But it’s our little wiki home, so I’m excited to share it with you all the same:slight_smile:

Tagging attendees from the last two meetups, and a few other people who have expressed interest in the past, to make sure you don’t miss it:

@Zack , @Ttrimm , @SarahB , @MissLunaRose , @Lutherus-Shyrilser , @Lojjik , @Loiswade42 , @Krystle , @KernelPone , @Jordan , @Joel.Miles925 , @Irdanwen , @InfernoTerra , @IamK , @Ginny-K ., @Galactic-Radiance , @ExoticComet , @Eric , @Donagan , @DifuWu , @ChocolateFan1 , @Byankno1 , @Adelaide , @Davecrosby , @KommaH , @Tiagoroth , @Atheia

Not being mentioned on this list doesn’t mean a thing, though… if you’re interested in joining us, save the date, keep an eye on the forums for further announcements in the new year, and be ready to RSVP as soon as you see forum announcements/invitations in January, to secure your room.

I’m stoked about having you all in our backyard - literally:slight_smile:- Who has been to the Haus before? I think @Eric has, and @Lojjik and @Choicefresh and @Flickety have. @Loiswade42 ?

@Anna Aww you are so kind to read it and reply so thoughtfully. Also, I didn’t mention it there, that all the wikiHausers look so nice:slight_smile:whenever I want to see them, I click on the I read this article button. I can’t spot you though.:stuck_out_tongue:

Hah, I was on maternity leave for that picture! I don’t mind, though - I’ve been in other staff shots in the past. Plus I’m in the meetup one next to it:wink:

Heya! Totally going to be there!

Oh, so that’s why you are not there. Of course you are there in the next one.

Woot, woot!

I can’t wait for next year’s meetup, and I’m excited to venture back to Palo Alto. Selfishly, I’m also glad to be getting out of the midwest and off to somewhere I don’t get to visit as often.:stuck_out_tongue:

Even if you have never been to a meetup before, consider saving the date now so you have time to decide if you want to attend. It’s always fun, friendly, and a good time (even if you’re introverted and think it must be awkward to hang out with people in-person that you only know online… don’t worry, we’re all wiki nerds)!

Thanks Anna for the mention. Never been to Palo Alto before, but I’m stoked. Sounds very exciting. I saw a few YouTube videos showing the outside of SanFran airport and how tech it looks from the outside and am glad I’ll be able to see this in person.

Thanks for the tag! Sounds like an exciting thing! Good to shake things up a bit- As always we’ll see how things pan out later in the season but I’d be happy to join you and see the Haus. Never been in that part of the country before either!

I am intending on attending… hey… it rhymes.

Yay!  That is near where I live!

I may not be able to attend depending on work and my parents, but I think you should get a taste of the Bay Area while you are at it.

Just saw this. I might be able to come (finally!). Will confirm depending on college schedule.

So stoked that people are stoked! I very much second what @Eric said, for anyone on the fence… we’re a bunch of wiki nerds, and it’s a low-key but pretty awesome way for us all to connect and nerd out in person:slight_smile:

No worries for those who aren’t sure if you can commit, just yet. The invitations will go out in January, on a rolling basis starting with the most active and involved wikiHowians. So there’s a little time before then, for you to see how your schedules work out.

Definitely pencil it in, though - Space will be somewhat limited: it’ll be about the same size group as last year, but the “event space” is smaller (here at the Haus!), so we won’t have much wiggle room beyond that, if there’s most interest than usual. So if you’re keen to join us, try to get an idea of your schedule before the start of the new year and secure your time off as needed. Then when it’s RSVP time, you can hop right in to save your spot, knowing that you’re good to go:slight_smile:

Wish I could do it!

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend this meet up thing because I live here in Manila, Philippines and I still have many things to process just to see you wikihowsters. haha:smiley:

Wow, this would be our sixth meetup. I’m thinking about possibly attending again:slight_smile:I love being engaged and active in the community!
