2016 is coming to a close. It has definitely been a ‘mixed’ year, and in some ways a tough one. I’m aware that the world events and tough political situation of this year have brought grief and fear to people, and many are still figuring out how to cope.
Despite all the tragedy and hate though, let’s not forget the wonder in humanity and the beautiful moments of this year. I am highlighting wikiHow in this. It brings me a deep sense of faith and hope to see that this community is one of the few websites on the Internet that brings humanity together, good, kind and loving people from all over the world. It makes me realize that we, together, are all one family. That we can all make a difference working together, and make friends in the progress.
Now, please let me highlight some wonderful things that have happened this year at wikiHow. There are so many, and I probably won’t get to all of them, but I will highlight what I can. We need as much positivity as possible!
First, an immense thank you to all of you that contributed to make this how-to manual better this year. I can see it in the articles and in the recent changes and in the community achievements. Even if you’re sitting idly and not very busy, and you’re just writing or editing articles to pass the time, you are still helping people around the world. You’re helping people to learn how to do something. If you’re editing, you’re either giving people more tips for a task or you’re making the instructions more comprehensive, easier for people to follow. Please don’t forget how much so many people appreciate that!
Don’t forget to take a look at the ‘why we wikiHow’ reflection. It reminds me that we are all one family, in the world, helping and respecting each other with a common passion! I loved reading what keeps everyone else volunteering for us. http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/20518/why-wikihow#latest
wikiHow was also highlighted as a ‘wonderful website’ in this news article and as a recommendation for finding good content. I’m truly amazed by this! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rahis-saifi/wonderful-websites-you-sh_b_9813860.html
And overall, I’m very grateful for the beautiful friendships that I’ve got to make in this community, a lot of the bonds developing this year. It makes me feel like wikiHow is a wonderful blessing. Some I haven’t met yet, but seem like promising friendships that could very well develop outside of the wiki, and I could meet these people in person. I would tag people by names, but hesitate to as many others may feel left out. I don’t want that to happen. I’m especially thankful for those who were kind enough to send me Barnstars and other special tokens of kindness, as it reminds me that I’m doing what I should be and that I’m appreciated. You all are appreciated, too.
May you have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year ahead! May love and peace be upon you in the holidays, and a better 2017.
