If you want to speak at the Wikimania conference the deadline to submit your speaking proposal is 18 March. Submit your proposal here: http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions I’m planning on submitting a speaking proposal. Any topics you think I should talk about to a wide audience of wiki people? Everyone else: YOU are invited to join us at Wikimania! We want as many wikiHowians to attend as possible so we can have a fun wikiHow meetup within the conference. We also offer scholarships to all very active wikiHowians to help people attend the conference. You probably qualify for a scholarship. Ask me or Krystle if you aren’t sure. Please join us. Wikimania is happening between July 12-15 in Washington DC. Our community signup page is here: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Wikimania2012

Hahahaha nice ones @Metsguy234 . I can’t think of what an editor such as myself could say to a whole wiki community. Now a wikiHOW community, I am sure I could think of something!

This may have been a topic of past discussion, but something that may interest the wiki community, while also incorporating wikiHow into the mix, is how to customize MediaWiki to fit the needs of a specific website. Not necessarily getting into the specific details and engineering of it, but rather how easy (or difficult) MediaWiki is to customize, how wikis can look and work all different ways, etc. While we are a wiki, the tools that are used by wikiHow contributors look, feel, and work a lot differently than if you were going to go edit a page at Wikipedia or on a Wikia site. Wikis can come in different shapes and forms and I think that wikiHow is a very successful example of that.

Don’t forget “IShareMahKnowledgeFoolishly - An Insightful Documentary On What An Adolescent Editor Does Away From wikiHow”. Good luck finding proof for that, though.

I think this is a great topic. I’ve always wondered why tweaks from other wiki projects that are openly shared don’t make it to the Wikimedia projects (that I know of). I also think usability would be another great topic for discussion, since I know that’s something Wikimedia has been working on for a while now.

Integrating wikis with modern technology — wikiHow has made the boldest steps with its iPhone, iPad apps

Here’s the idea I submitted today: http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Women_on_wikiHow I hope people come to my talk! *fingers crossed*

Does it have to be a talk? Could it be a demo such as we did at RCC? I could demo a craft…

^ Wait, as in, record what we want to say, then just have someone play it? *JuneDays isn’t THAT smart* June Days

There are some funny ideas in here. @Loiswade42 are you likely coming to Wikimania? Please say yes, please say yes! You may want to indicated your status here: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Wikimania2012

@Loiswade42 , I think you could and should demo a craft in the open space or “lightening talks” part of the conference. That part is more like RCC and less formal than the submitted presentations part of Wikimania. I think people would really like it in that venue. I would.

I’ve not discussed it with Mel yet? And we’ve not made summer plans yet… but it’s within driving distance for us, so… Maybe?

@Loiswade42 It would be sooooo awesome if you could come!

Yeah! Two wins. @Metsguy234 as a very likely. And @Loiswade42 and presumably her husband Mel as maybes! It will be great to see everyone!

Could someone please video this. and make it the first video on Youtube? (For wikiHow.) June Days

Wikimania happenings are usually updated online through a wiki and an IRC channel. I think some things are also broadcast via streaming video or Skype.

Just the talk, I mean, the people from WIKIHOW talking, specifecly. June Days

Well, if people from wikiHow are talking at Wikimania, then it will probably be covered in the Wikimania-related IRC channels and any other mediums where Wikimania is being broadcast online.

Here is Krystle’s talk proposal: http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Women_on_wikiHow And here is mine: http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/wiki_for_Everyone:_Culture_and_Features_at_wikiHow @JuneDays I think it’s likely that a video of these talk will go on the Wikimania site at some point a few weeks after the talk. Unless of course I totally choke the talk. In which case I will break into the headquarters of the Wikimedia Foundation and delete the hard drive holding my video BEFORE they put it online. Well at least, that’s the best plan I have at the moment.

Hahahaha /me has your back!
