I know there are many different operating systems out there, but I’d like to ask the wiki-Community what their opinions on the different OS’s are! Basically say what your favorite OS is, and if you want, rank your favorites. I’ll start.

My favorite is ChromeOS, and my least favorite is Windows.

My favorite operating system is Windows 10! I don’t have to be connected to the internet to use it. Also, if you want to play real non-casual games, it’s Windows or bust, for the most part.

Linux. Definitely Linux. I like Linux and I don’t really like anything else. Linux has many different distributives, but I can’t do a ranking because I have used only Ubuntu and Debian for a significant amount of time.

Mac OS X is somewhat OK, I think… Not too happy with it, but I can use it.

Least favourite is Windows 7/8/10. (Windows XP was probably not a good system and definitely not something you should use in 2021 due to security concerns, but it gives me a strong feeling of nostalgia.) I can’t stand the interfaces of the new MS Office programs, I can’t stand what the system looks like and acts like… To keep it short, I’m happy that I almost never have to use Windows.I’m not a gamer, so for me it doesn’t make a difference whether there are a lot of games only available for Windows. I’m content with the games that I can run on Linux.

I’ve never seen ChromeOS, much less used it, so I can’t give any opinion about it. Same for FreeBSD and any other operating systems I haven’t mentioned.

I think Chrome OS is good. But windows for a laptop and iPhone as a phone!

Same with the Windows. I think XP should now come with “free virus guaranteed with every visit of a website” lol. Obviously I’m exaggerating, but I think you know what I mean.

I like ChromeOS particularly because it’s essentially idiot-proof. I’m no expert when it comes to computers, and I like ChromeOS because it’s simple, clean, and easy to use.

All I pretty much use is Windows 10, and that’s good enough for me.

Windows 10!

May I ask, what do you guys like about Win10? @QuotingOnwikiHow @HelperOnWikihow Personally I find that it’s hard to navigate, pretty clunky overall, prone to viruses, and full of unnecessary apps installed with the “clean install.” Maybe that’s just me though, considering I really just need a browser and a text editor and I’m all set… XD

I’d go with Windows 10, (like the majority) because it’s very easy to use and my computer barely has any problems with it.

Nothing really special about it; it’s just the only operating system I have lots of experience with.

I’ve always been a Windows user. Never been a Mac one (because I’m not rich). However, I also own an iPhone which I commonly use. I’ve used Androids in the past, but I haven’t liked those. I’ve owned an iPad in the past - but it got too old and traded it in for money.

I’ve also owned a few Amazon Kindles, but my reading has turned more to the Amazon Kindle app on my iPhone, and I’m slowing down my reading speed as I’ve worked through all my present books on my Amazon cloud account.

For desktops and laptops, I like Windows 10. When shopping for a Windows desktop or laptop, you have a multitude of options, from budget laptops to laptops designed for business to even laptops designed for gamers. I feel like Apple and Google make computers for more specific niches. I also consider myself a bit of a gamer, and the restrictions Chrome OS has (and also the slow speed typical of chromebooks oh my god) only allow you to download apps you can find on the play store. There’s no point in having a laptop if I can run every single app on it faster with my tablet or phone. Apple doesn’t design computers for gamers, either, so I have no interest in them.

For phones and tablets, I like Samsung’s software skin. I understand that very few people like the bloatware pre-installed on Samsung devices, but I’m best at navigating through Samsung’s apps and I like the overall aesthetic of Samsung’s software. Stock Android isn’t bad either- I’m not too fond of the aesthetic and can’t really navigate it, but the versatility and lack of bloatware make it seem like the ideal option when it comes to mobile devices.

A lot of this just boils down to my bias. I have never used an Apple device (other than my cousin’s iPad, which I found hard to navigate). My tablets and phones have always been Samsungs, and my personal computers have always run Windows. I use stock Android and Chrome OS from time to time, but by no means do I prefer them.

Windows. I’ve used Windows since XP. I’ve used Macs and frankly find the things on Macs a little complex. I’m accustomed to Windows because I’ve used it for so long.

I miss the days when XP had their Pinball game. I wish Windows would bring back games like Hearts, Minesweeper and Solitaire.

However, I can’t stand Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Edge. I’ve talked to many people and they say it has a lot of problems and glitches. Chrome and Firefox all the way.

I understand that this is a common misconception, but Windows 10 is not prone to viruses. Microsoft Defender does an extremely good job of stopping viruses. If you’re a home user, and you don’t disable the built in security features on Windows 10, then won’t get a virus. Even for companies, it’s good. One time, someone tried to launch a massive cyber attack on a bunch of companies in Europe, and the Microsoft Defender Cloud AI stopped the attack in 3 seconds. Also, not many hackers are making new viruses these days. Data breaches and Ransomware are where the money’s at now.

Microsoft still does make these games for Windows 10. You can download Microsoft Solitaire Collection and Minesweeper from the Microsoft Store.

If I had a PC, I’d prefer it to be Windows since I’m much more used to it. I can’t really say anything about Linux since I’ve never used it before, and even though I’ve ( very briefly) used Mac once or twice, I’ve no idea how to do anything.

For mobile, if you asked me a few years ago I would’ve said Android hands down (and still kinda do), but it also kinda depends.

  • I use a (somewhat outdated) Android tablet for gaming (which can occasionally be frustrating since I used to be able to play Roblox on it back when you still had guest accounts and my OS was more up to date, but now I can’t due to extreme lag) since you can download apps without needing to go through Google Play/App Store, which is good for when I want to use hacked versions of apps (Among Us skins/pets, Minecraft, etc.) I fully plan to pay for them eventually once I get the money:sweat_smile: ) or want to freely download apps in general that may not be on the app store.

  • iOS is fine, I’ve had plenty of time to get used to it and will sometimes use it even more than my Android. I mainly use it for general Internet stuff since it has a more up-to-date browser, or for listening to music offline via Files. (why even bother paying to use the Music app when you can use download an mp3 file and do the exact same thing for free??)

^ P.S. Spoiler tags are all side-tangents that kinda distract from a slightly more… straightforward, answer.:joy:

Edit over a year later: Randomly remembered this post and figured I’d make it a bit less rambly and more straightforward. Also @Jennie04 I never even mentioned owning a phone.

Woah, you got a laptop, a tablet, a phone and an iPad? I really wanna buy an iPad (and that’sstill in my mind) but I’m leaving it because I won’t use it when I get back to school since I won’t have time. IDK what I’ll do with this PC too.

Lol, no. Phone and PC belong to my parents, I just occasionally borrow them from time to time.
(maybe you should read a bit of what’s in the spoiler tags:upside_down_face:)
