Welcome to the first wikiHaus Lab update of 2025! Here’s what’s happening for January 30th:

:rocket: What’s happening?Updates to User Pages. With our quizzes and discussion forums taking off, the team is adding some new sections to User Pages. Look out for some additional Personality Profiles, and also a discussion forums section (only visible to you). Both of these sections will be able to be toggled on or off in the profile section.

:rocket: What’s happening?Help wanted! We are considering having a couple of wikiHowian helpers for the discussion forums. Helpers will use a new tool to review and approve or reject new comments for forum posts. Although the responsibility will be by invitation only at this stage, if you’d like to be considered to be one of our first forum helpers, please fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/VyKNYjT2mAH9ShT36
Please note that you must be at least 16 years of age and there will be a test to pass.
Preference will likely be given to those who are already boosters and/or admins, but this is not a requirement at this stage.

:star: Coming up:“This day in history”. We have a new wikiHow feature page coming soon! Scheduled to launch in February, this page will have an overview of a historical event from that day in history, as well as a list of the most popular wikiHow articles and quizzes from that day in the past! We’ll also have a newsletter signup so you can get the info directly in your inbox! I’ll be sure to post it when it goes live.

Thank you for all the updated information! I noticed the user page changes, lol. I would sign up to be a Forum Helper, but again, I don’t have a working email:frowning:This Day in History is a great idea!

Awesome new features! I can’t wait to see the “This Day in History” ones!

Also, for the forum helpers, what if you’re just below 16? Are exceptions made?

I’m curious about the forum helper, particularly this line: Helpers will use a new tool to review and approve or reject new comments for forum posts.

Would this also grant the ability to moderate existing comments or would this just solely curate new comments?

@FearlessOne Unfortunately we can’t make any exceptions for the need to be at least 16.

@Tiagoroth for now, it’s solely curating new comments.

Same, I’m excited for “This Day in History” since it reminds me of my “On This Day” facts on my userpage!

@JayneG I thought of an idea that has a 50/50 chance of being a good idea: maybe a following feature? Like you can follow other wikiHowians on either the forums or the main site and for those who aren’t interested can turn off the notification or something?

Just my two cents, but I feel like such a feature could deviate people from the mission—having such counts could cause divides between some community members over who has more followers and who has not. We already have articles revolving around how user rights do not define your worth (such as this ) and follower counts could add to that problem.

A social person (such as a Welcomer) might have more followers, while another contributor who doesn’t chat much might have less. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Welcomer contributes much more. Besides, we already have TU counts that may be optionally displayed on user pages, which seem far more accurate on the “prestige” side than follower counts!

Yeah, that makes more sense,:+1:but as I said, it may or may not be a good idea.:upside_down_face:
