Welcome to the wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s new so far this year:

:rocket: What’s happening?
Article experiments continue! It’s 2021 and the content team is continuing to test new ideas for article formats. Lately there have been some variations on list articles, for example using a list format to expand a shorter article, like in How to Make a Cinnamon Bun in a Mug , along with some myth busting articles like How to Sober Up Fast .
:mag: Who’s working on it?
Carrie and the content team.
:dart: What’s the goal of this?
As we’ve previously noted, the idea of these particular experiments is to give authors more freedom and flexibility to present educational and instructional information in ways that align with reader expectations, and helps our readers find the information they need quickly.

:rocket: What’s happening?
The team is going to be testing adding videos to answer questions in both article methods and expert Q&A.
:mag: Who’s working on it?
Jordan is the engineer working on making this possible along with the visual and expert teams.
:dart: What’s the goal of this?
The team is curious to see whether people might be interested in watching video instead of reading text to find out the answers to their questions.

:rocket: You may have noticed:Samples on article pages have now been moved to lightboxes, like on How to Write a Cover Letter .

:rocket: You may have noticed:The newsletter signup in the footer of the site is now embedded and can be filled out without a popup box.

Hi Jayne,

I like steps to be individual parts to the final result. That’s how I’d imagined them to be like right from the beginning. Later I got used to steps in parts/ methods. Now, I’ll stretch my mind and adapt to this style of writing.

Lightboxes are such a boon. Things that usually take a fee are handed out freely on wikiHow, that also material of great quality.

All the best to adding videos for answers and other formatting experiments.

I see the newsletter popup. I am already subscribed to it. Infact I saw a lovely picture on it today.

Kudos to the teams, including visual and expert teams, Carrie, and Jordan.:+1:Do well.

Great!:+1::

Interesting. Definitely gonna have to try that one.Quick question: Can I replace the maple syrup with pancake syrup or caramel sauce if I don’t have any?

That’s a great question that I don’t know the answer to! I’m sure a quick google search will help figure out what you could use as a substitute!

I think the font looks bigger in some articles. Is it being changed or it’s just my phone?

No, nothing’s wrong with your phone. The font is big.

I like the lightboxes for the documents, except for the fact that the “X” to close them is on the left instead of on the right.

That’s an interesting observation about the user experience! I’ve passed that onto the team that implemented them:slight_smile:
