In dit artikel kun je lezen hoe je in twee dagen van ruwhouten planken een eenvoudige buitentafel maakt.

Eisen

Ontwerpoverwegingen

  • De korte verticale planken voorkomen dat de poten opzij uit elkaar gaan.
  • De lange verticale planken voorkomen dat de poten naar voren of achteren gaan. Zij geven ook extra steun omdat de lange regels verzwakt zijn door de inkepingen halverwege.
  • Gebruik één tuinpaal van 3 meter, in vieren is dat 74,5 cm per poot, en samen met de zwenkwiel is dat precies de goede hoogte.
  • De verticale planken komen 35 cm van de tafelrand, anders kom je er met de knieën tegenaan.
  • De poten komen 10 cm van de tafelrand zodat de armleuning van de tuinstoel ook bij de poten iets onder de tafel kunnen steken.
  • Onderkant van het tafelblad moet glad zijn dus geen bevestigingsmiddelen.

Stappen

    Zaag één van de regels in tweeën en op lengte. De lengte wordt bepaald door het aantal planken in het tafelblad. Houdt rekening met een gleuf tussen de planken van 1 á 2 mm waar het water doorheen kan.
  2. 2
    Zaag de uiteinden van de regels 45 graden af. Dit is een precies karwei maar geeft mooiere hoeken. Je kunt de korte regels ook kops op de lange regels monteren, daarmee wordt de tafel iets langer en hoef je de planken van het tafelblad straks niet in te korten.

    Maak drie inkepingen in de lange regels met een bovenfrees.

    Fixeer met schroeven.

    Zaag de tuinpaal in vieren. Zorg dat de zaagsnede recht en haaks is.

    Boor gaatjes in de horizontale ruwhouten planken voor het straks vastschroeven van de planken van het tafelblad, en verzink ze.

    Zaag de planken voor het tafelblad op maat. Laat 1 á 2 mm ruimte aan de uiteinden.

    Schuur de randen van de planken voor het tafelblad, de bovenkant komt later, de onderkant is niet nodig.

    Bepaal de mooie kant en de volgorde van de planken voor het tafelblad, de mooiste aan de zijkanten, de minder mooie in het midden, en nummer ze aan de onderkant. Markeer ook waar de ruwhouten horizontale planken zitten.

    Leg de planken met de mooie kant omlaag op drie balkjes. Breng lijm aan tussen de markeringen van de ruwhouten planken, maar niet te dicht op de rand, want de lijm kan er bij het aandrukken onderweg knijpen.

    Leg met twee man de onderbouw van de tafel ondersteboven op de planken. Schuif de planken zodanig dat er overal 1 á 2 mm ruimte tussen is. Schroef de planken vast. Laat de lijm uitharden.

    Monteer de zwenkwielen, gebruik ringen als de kop van de schroef door het gat gaat.

Tips

  • Je kunt de korte verticale planken ook met korte diagonale balkjes vastmaken aan de horizontale ruwhouten planken in plaats van met hoekankers, en daar dan de lange verticale planken tegenaan. Ziet er mooier uit maar er blijft dan wel wat resthout over van een balk.
  • Kies voor douglas als de tafel zomer en winter buiten moet blijven staan en geen onderhoud nodig heeft. Douglas laat zich fijn glad schuren, vooral met een schuurmachine.
