Kishmish (raisin) water might have health benefits for certain people. People typically eat raisins as dried fruit for their mild taste and nutrients. If you’re looking to get even more benefits from raisins, you can easily start making kishmish water (raisin water). It’s possible that kishmish water can offer a wide range of benefits, from lowering blood pressure to helping flush toxins out of your body. While this isn’t backed by medical science, anecdotal evidence does suggest that kishmish water is good for you. There’s probably no harm in giving it a try, but you can always check with your doctor to make sure.
Steps
-
Heat 8 fluid ounces (240 mL) of water on the stove. Grab a small pot or saucepan and add your water to it. Heat the water on high until it is boiling. This will probably take about 10 minutes.
- Cover the pot to make the water boil faster.
-
Add 150 grams (1 cup) of raisins and let them soak overnight. Once the water has boiled, gently pour your raisins into the hot water. Turn the burner off and allow the mixture to rest overnight. [1] X Research source
- If you’re making your kishmish water during the day, make sure to let it sit for at least 8 hours.

Strain the raisins using a sieve or colander. When you get up in the morning, your raisins should be nice and soft. The water will be infused with the flavor and nutrients of the raisins. Carefully pour the mixture into a sieve or colander to separate the raisins from the water. Then pour the water back into the pot and place the raisins in a small container to store them. Reheat the water before drinking. Gently warm the kishmish water on the stove. You don’t need it to boil it again. It's fine to simply warm it for a few minutes. [3] X Research source
- You can also pour the water into a microwave-safe mug and heat it quickly in the microwave if you prefer.

Drink the water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. It’s thought that drinking the water on an empty stomach is the best way for your body to absorb the nutrients. Try drinking your water right when you get up before you have your breakfast. There isn't scientific data to back this, but it is fine to give it a try. [4] X Research source
- If you don’t want to drink it in the morning, you can drink it at a different time during the day. Just make sure that you haven’t eaten anything for several hours before drinking your kishmish water.
- The recommended amount is to drink a glass of kishmish water each morning. If there are health benefits, you can likely get them from this amount. If you like the taste, there's probably no reason you can't drink a couple of glasses. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
-
Avoid eating anything for 30 minutes. To fully absorb the nutrients, don’t eat anything for about half an hour after drinking kishmish water. Some people believe that having an empty stomach allows the kishmish water to work faster. While that is not backed by science, it will not hurt you to eat the raisins on an empty stomach. Eat the raisins to get extra nutrients. Kishmish water is full of nutrients, so you can just drink it on its own. But if you want to get the most out of the raisins, eat them after they’ve soaked. There is some evidence that raisins can help lower blood pressure. It is possible they include other benefits. Either way, the raisins are a healthy and tasty treat. [6] X Research source
- You can snack on the raisins throughout the day. You don’t have to eat them at the same time as you drink the water.
-
Talk to your doctor about possible benefits from kishmish water. While there isn’t hard evidence that kishmish water can make you healthier, it probably won’t hurt to try drinking it. Ask your doctor first if there is any reason you should add this to your routine. Also, let them know if you want to try kishmish water as a replacement to one of your medications.
