Your iPhone may get hot and overheat if you use it for a long period of time, have a software issue, or live in a hotter environment. To prevent your iPhone from heating up, take breaks from your device and leave it in a dark, cool area.

Take off the case. Some cases may prevent proper airflow from getting to your device. Be careful removing the case if your iPhone is extremely hot; some parts may burn you.

Leave your iPhone alone for a bit. If your iPhone gets too hot, iOS will issue a temperature warning on the screen. Before you get to this point, take a break from your phone to allow it to rest and cool down.

Disable Background App Refresh . This feature keeps apps up-to-date when not in use. To disable it, do the following:
- Open Settings .
- Tap General .
- Tap Background App Refresh .
- Tap Background App Refresh again.
- Tap Off .

Turn on Airplane Mode . This mode disables all Wi-Fi and cellular on your device. If you get a lot of notifications, messages, and calls, this can ensure your phone is left alone while it cools.

Update your iPhone. If there's a software bug affecting your iPhone, updating to the latest version is your best bet at fixing it.
