According to the datasheet, Advantage II is designed to be used once a month. More frequent applications are unlikely to be harmful, while a greater gap between treatments can lead to a gap in parasite protection.

Advantage has a bitter taste. If licked off the coat, the dog may salivate heavily. Some dogs experience local irritation at the site of application, such as redness or itchiness. At very high doses, some dogs can become uncoordinated and develop tremors.

    Expert Answer
Advantage II, as with all licensed medications, has been through extensive safety testing. Those tests show a high safety margin even when combined with other products. In fact, at 5-8 times the recommended dose, applied for consecutive days (instead of monthly), the pets came to no harm. So yes, Advantage II is safe, but as with all pharmaceuticals, there can be potential side effects on rare occasions.
