I don't think that's a huge problem since there are many HDMI-to-component port cables that can solve the connectivity issue. However, if your TV isn't HD, then you may want to use VGA-to-component ports because your TV can't handle HDMI.

I have the early 2011 MacBook Pro, which has an HDMI port. Will the sound go through the HDMI cable?
    Community Answer
It should go through, as HDMI carries both audio and video. If it doesn't go through both and you are not using an adapter to connect the laptop to the HDMI cable, then you have done something wrong or there is a fault that needs checking out by a technician.

There's nothing else you can do. You need either an adapter, or a TV that supports Thunderbolt inputs. You bought a MacBook Air; you can afford an adapter.

This article is meant to explain how to use a smart TV as a display. Ethernet is only useful for that purpose if your TV supports AirPlay. If you already have a Wi-Fi connection on your Mac, it would be easier to connect the TV to the same wireless network. If you really want to connect the TV using Ethernet, follow the direction on how to share your Mac's internet connection . Sharing your internet connection also gives the TV an IP address you can share to over AirPlay.
