If your headband comes off in your sleep, this won't work for you. You will need to get a headband that is not as loose as the one that you currently have. You may also need to loop your hair around the headband a little tighter, so that the headband will stay in place overnight.
  • Question
Does it matter if you just pull out the headband?
    Community Answer
Yes, because you can damage your hair by just pulling it out. Take it out carefully.
  • Question
My hair always gets extremely tangled when I use this method. What should I do?
    Community Answer
Straighten your hair first. Completely detangle it and, when removing the tangles, be careful.
  • Question
My hair is thin and straight. What would be best for me to do?
    Community Answer
Do exactly what the article says, and maybe add a few more pins to help the hair and headband be more secure.
  • Question
How do I keep the headband from falling out? Mine keeps falling out, and it's one of those sports headbands with the elastic parts to keep it from silding.
    Community Answer
If you have a problem with the headband falling out, try a wide, stretchy headband as opposed to a thin headband. You can also try pinning the headband in place with bobby pins.
  • Question
How long do I need to leave it in?
    Community Answer
You should leave it in until your hair is completely dry. If you take it out too soon and your hair is damp, the curls will fall out and your hair will be straight again. For most hair types, it will take a few hours, but it can take up to overnight or an entire day for other hair types.
  • Question
Can I do this the night before so I can wear the curls to school?

    Community Answer
The best thing to do is to have dry hair, then spritz water on it to dampen it. The longer you have the headband with the hair wrapped around it the better, so I would suggest you put these in your hair ASAP after school, and then wait as long as you can the next morning to take them out. Also, you might want to try two headbands if your hair is thicker, as the curls will turn out much better (in my experience).
  • Question
Does this only work on freshly washed hair?
    Community Answer
No. You may use it on unwashed hair. If you have thin hair, however, the curls won't hold as long because of the oils in the hair weighing it down.
  • Question
Will the curls be damaged if I take a shower?
    Community Answer
If you shower after the curls are finished, then yes, it will damage them.
  • Question
My hair is very thick. I've tried this method several times. It always falls out very quickly. I also pinned everything loose up, and it still falls. What am I doing wrong?
    Community Answer
Try putting your hair in tighter, and try a tighter headband as well. A few extra bobby pins will help secure it.
  • Question
How should I sleep when I have these in? On my side or on my back?
    Community Answer
Either way! If you have thicker hair, it'll stay in no matter what. If you have thinner hair, you might want to put a few extra pins.
  • Question
Do you pin it after so it won't fall out?
    Community Answer
It depends on whether you have thick or thin hair. If you have thin hair, then, yes.
  • Question
How damp should my hair be?
    Community Answer
Take a spray bottle and put filtered water in it. When you take the separate strands, spray up and down the hair strand about 6 times. You don't want your hair dripping wet, but about 85-90% dry.
  • Question
Do I really need bobby pins?
    Community Answer
You do not have to, but it will help you.
  • Question
I'm scared mine is going to fall when I try to sleep. What do I do?
    Community Answer
You should use bobby pins to keep it in place. Pin down the loose parts of hair and make sure you sleep comfortably so you don't fidget. Also use hair spray or mousse.
  • Question
Will this work with shorter hair?
    Community Answer
Yes, you just have to put the headband a little bit lower so the hair can reach it.
  • Question
What will I do for long, thick hair? It doesn't stay, and bobby pins won't stay in, either.
    Community Answer
You just have to wrap it tightly. If you use a smaller headband, it should work better.
  • Question
Should I wet my hair and do this, or blow dry most of it, then put it up?
    Community Answer
It should work on dry hair, you may just want to add some product to help it hold.
  • Question
Do I have to use curl cream or mousse?
    Community Answer
No, but it may help it last longer.
  • Question
Is there a specific brand of headband I should use?
    Community Answer
Any comfortable stretchy headband should work. Sports headbands work nicely. Just make sure that your headband isn't cutting off circulation. Really wide headbands will make a weird impression on your hair, so try using a thin headband.
  • Question
Do I have to use hairspray?
    Taylor Schwenk
    Community Answer
You don’t have to but using hairspray keeps the curls in longer. Without hairspray, the curls my fall out and your hair will become straight faster.
