    Community Answer
Ways of doing puja are ways that the learned acharyas have taught us. So, to follow their guidance helps with our humility. There are also certain ways of serving a deity according to sastra (scripture) in order for us to cause as little offence as possible. But of course, if in addition to these ways of doing puja, it helps you to develop a sweet relationship with God, then that is wonderful. For example, maybe after offering aarti according to sastra, then maybe after you might want to meditate in silence with the deity. It is your way of having that connection.
