You might not have been invited to a group chat, or your notifications are off. To turn them on, go to settings>notifications>messages>show notifications.

How can I change the limit of 20 contacts in my group when I have a group of 26?

iPhone users are limited to 32 group chat members when using iMessage, but only 20 members if any contacts use SMS. These limits are set by your carrier. You can contact your carrier to request larger group message limits if needed.
