  • Question
When installing a screen door on tracks, do I put the top of the door in first and then put the bottom on the track?
    Community Answer
Yes. The "wheels" on the screen top should be adjusted enough to allow the screen door to be lifted up high enough for the bottom "wheels" to be set on the track.
  • Question
What do I do if my new screen door fit until the hinges were installed and now doesn't close all the way?
    Community Answer
You will need to move the hinges away from the door frame a bit and screw them in again (away from the edge against which is it closing). This will give it more space to close.
  • Question
Is the spline on the inside?
    Community Answer
Yes, make sure the spline is on the inside when you mount the door. It is a "small" security matter, but a major appearance matter!
  • Question
    Can I install a 36 inch screen to a 32 inch frame?
    Community Answer
No you cannot, it would be too big. You could try getting a bigger frame for it or trimming the wood of the door.
  • Question
Do I have the screen door on the inside or outside?
    Community Answer
It doesn't matter, but from my experience, it depends on a number of variables. For example, if you have dogs/cats that may scratch the screen or tear holes in it, you will want it on the outside.
  • Question
Where should I install the spring on a screen door?
    Community Answer
Typically, you want to install the spring at the top of the door, and make sure that tension is on it through the full swing of the door, but not too much tension when the door is fully open.
  • Question
What size lumber should I use for framing a door?
    Community Answer
    2x4 timber is best.
  • Question
How do I take a half inch off the bottom of my screen door without wrecking it?
    Community Answer
I would recommend sanding it. Sanding can be very precise, and a half inch would not take long.
  • Question
Can I use the same screws for my old screen door in my new one?
    Community Answer
You could, though I would recommend using new ones, as they'll have a longer lifespan.
  • Question
Do the hinges go on the outside of the door if I want the door to swing to the outside?
    Community Answer
Yes, the outward swinging screen door hinges will typically ideally open outward, away from the inside main door. Setting them inside between the two doors would be an unusual, difficult and unnecessary arrangement. Choose decorative or aesthetically pleasing hinges that function to your liking. There are spring hinges.
  • Question
Can I install a 30 inch screen to a 31 inch door frame?
    Community Answer
You will probably have too much room between frame and door. Try for most 1/4” and least 1/8”.
  • Question
I'm having a large refrigerator removed. How can I adjust the screen door to open fully to allow for the refrigerator to pass through without damaging the screen door?
    Community Answer
On some hinges, you can tap the hinge pin out of the hinge and remove the door. Alternatively, you can remove the screws from the hinges where they attach to the door frame and remove the door.
