  • Question
How do I anchor between steel studs?
    Community Answer
Using a drill and the right-sized bit to pre-drill holes, you can use sheet-metal screws instead of nails.
  • Question
How do I install a wall safe if my studs are too close together?
    C Grace
    Community Answer
As the article states, your studs should be 16" apart, which is standard. If not, then just measure between them and look for a safe that will fit. If there are none that fit, then you will have to look for a different wall that will accommodate a safe, or just give up on the idea.
  • Question
If installed between studs, how far will the safe stick out from the wall? Trying to cover it with a picture.

Most wall safes are designed with a recessed front cover. This cover should not stick out past the wall. It should be flush with the wall.
  • Question
What should you do if you have a horizontal fire block? Is the safe considered a fire block?
    Miles P
    Community Answer
Fire blocks in a wall are made of wood and aren't critical. Contractors will move them for running pipes and anything else in the house. One missing isn’t going to make a big difference. So yes, you can remove it. You could consider a safe to be a fire block, because it will help stop air from moving in the wall cavity.
  • Question
Can I install a wall safe on an exterior-facing wall, and will the insulation be a problem?
    Miles P
    Community Answer
You should be fine, depending on your climate. In extreme temperatures, the contents of the safe may take on the outside temperature due to lack of insulation, which could cause dampness or condensation. I suggest placing a piece of insulating foam behind the safe if you push the insulation away.
