  • Question
How do I do this from a laptop?
    Community Answer
Music can be put on a 3DS by removing the SD card and loading the music files onto it manually. If your laptop has an SD card port, it can be inserted there; if not, use an SD card adapter for a USB.
  • Question

You will have to download or purchase it. Music is not included.

You'll need to use a port, which your device should have. You can get a blank SD card from a tech store.
  • Question
    Can I use a laptop?
    Community Answer
Yes, as long as it has an SD port.
  • Question
How do I get music on a micro?
    Community Answer
The same technique applies to any SD-based card, but you need to use a MicroSD/MiniSD Card adapter (comes with most MiniSD/MicroSD Cards).
  • Question
It didn't work with my original 3DS. Does the music have to be a certain file type?
    Community Answer
MP3 seems to work. Other file formats I'm not sure of. WAV usually works with most hardware.
  • Question
How do I delete music from the SD card?
    Community Answer
Right click on your song when connected to PC/laptop, then either click "delete" or delete the Music folder.
  • Question
Can I do it on a mobile device?
    Community Answer
Yes, but only if the SD card you have is a MicroSD. I use an old MicroSD with an adapter for my 3DS. Just follow the steps above on your mobile device and it should work just fine. Otherwise you'll have to do it on a computer.
  • Question
How do I put music on my 3DS if I don't have a laptop?

    Community Answer
If you have a desktop, follow the same steps. If you have a phone or other mobile device with the ability to read SD cards through the use of an integrated port (most mobile devices with said ports tend to only be able to read micro SD cards, in this case a micro SD to SD card adapter will be needed) or an adapter. With mobile devices, you will need to use the devices file system to transfer the music files onto the card. It is easier to use a PC than a mobile Apple device because iOS devices prevent you from putting iTunes songs on external storage devices.
  • Question
Can I do this on something other than a laptop?
    Community Answer
Yes. You will need an SD-to-USB adapter, which you can buy easily online or from electronics stores.
  • Question
Will the folder show up on my 3DS? And will I be able to play the music by just tapping it, like a game? Or is it more complicated?
    Community Answer
You use the pre-installed 3DS sound app and select the name of the folder you made and play the songs.

You could try putting the SD card in a phone or tablet. As long as whatever device you use can read and modify the card it should work.
