Unless a person received something because they had the uniform on, they have not done anything wrong as 18 USC § 912 states. If you have a social security number, you should go to the Selective Service website under the registration tab to verify your registration. If you are not and you are an 18-25 year old man, you'll need to register. This takes less than 2 minutes if you have your SSN ready. If you are registered, you'll want to write down your Selective Service Number in the event that you need it when applying for jobs or federal student aid.

Unless there is a draft, which there is not at this time, there is no way to provide this information to the Selective Service. Your son is required to be registered, but in the event of a draft, if he was called by lottery, you would be able to submit a claim for a medical exemption to your local board for approval.

If you're living in the US between the ages of 18-25 and are not here on a valid non-immigrant visa, you were required to register. After the age of 26, men are no longer able to register.
